Suppose a CFI with no prior air carrier experience has his first interview with a 135/121 VFR only type company, what kind of questions could he expect to receive and what do you think would be the best way to prepare for the interview? Obviously HR, systems, and general info stuff, but would it be safe to assume that you should have a decent knowledge of the rules pertaining to that type of operation or do they understand that you'll learn that stuff in ground lab? Unfortunately I'm not expecting an interview soon but am just curious. Thanks.

Interview

Probably questions on the aircraft you've been flying. Questions on the regs under which the operator flies. Situational questions about if you should fly if the weather is a particular way, loading, overloading. Questions on the kind of flying you've been doing, how it got you to the desk of the interviewer. Loaded questions on if you ever have busted a reg. Emergency or abnormal situations you have faced and how you handled them. Maybe questions on your educational and training background, how and why you got into flying, short-term goals, long-term goals (which you should answer honestly).

Hope that helps. Good luck with your interview.

This can and does vary quite abit from operator to operator. You can expect the "typical" hr questions regardless of what flying background you are coming from whether it be a 135 guy or a CFI. I think it is also a safe assumption to make that you can also expect to see quite a few "situational" questions pertaining to a two pilot crew with all the "what if's" "what would you do" blah blah blah- I would say the rest is up for debate and really depends on who is conducting the interview..
