Pilot's okay!

VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) -- A military spokesman says the pilot of an F-15 fighter jet that crashed this morning in southwestern Indiana ejected safely.
The jet was from the Missouri Air National Guard's 131st Fighter Wing, based at Lambert Field in St. Louis.

The aircraft was conducting standard training maneuvers as part of a four aircraft formation. No other aircraft was involved in the crash that occurred about 10 a-m Central time.

Knox County officials secured a 100-yard radius around the crash site.
A witness said he saw jets dogfighting, then saw the pilot eject from one plane. He then saw the crash and a plume of smoke and flames.

Television helicopter images showed smoldering wreckage in a farm field, with the plane's tail still visible.

Hope the SAR folks got to him before my relatives.

Bet he has a 'purdy mouth'...

WEEEEEEEE WEEEEEE!!! ;) :D TC

P.S.--Glad he's ok. I figured it was one of the HUF guys since they are down there.

The story I posted failed to mention the F-15s WERE flying with 4 HUF F-16s at the time. Think the 181FW is just bad luck in that area (I believe they've lost 3 F-16s in the past few years there).

Keeper--Weren't two of those loses in one midair? I don't know if it's true now but a few years ago, the higher ups were trying to shut them down because they were somewhat irreverent.

I believe Sen. Lugar had to step in to keep them in the fighter business. TC

Terre Haute got bracked and are losing their jets. I believe that they are going up to FT. Wayne to replace their older block 25's. Got a bud here at UPT that is with Terre Haute and isn't sure where he is going to end up.

Yes two of them were involved in a midair, unfortunately one pilot didn't make it.

We (Ft Wayne) aren't getting Terre Haute's birds. They're already being weeded out to Atlantic City, NJ.

We may be getting 30s from Selfridge, but it'll still be another year. We're still kind of busy with our old 25s...heading to AEF this fall.

We are getting some Terre Haute pilots. As a matter of fact a couple of our pilots went out to Vance to attend a graduation of one of our new pilots. They said we have 4 in the pipeline and 2 more who were supposed to go to Terre Haute but will come here.

As soon as they release the name, please post. One of my fraternity brothers from college flies with that unit.

Didn't intend for that to be dig on the block 25's. If I remember correctly one of those birds used to be at our base. Selfridge birds.....make sure that TCTO is complied with before your next ORI! :erm:

Haha....that reminds me, I remember seeing your units painted concrete barrier over at the Deid. They made us "touch" it up before the Gen. came by for an inspection. Something about removing a certain part of the horse anatomy! ;) As much as we didn't want to, the powers above forced it. If I remember correctly someone repainted it back on after the Gen. left.

Hey weasel i bet its alot more fun working on fast planes with no props !! SA was fun but nothing like 16s even if they are block 25's

Dude! At times I hardly even remember working on Saabs...until one catches my ear as it taxis to the gate.

At Nellis (Las Vegas) a couple months ago. My jet.
