What you say is reasonable, and in many instances your scenario is correct. I am NOT arguing against NJASAP. I was just pointing out that the shortage is helping our negotiators. Why on earth would anyone get angry about that? Except for Diesel, whose comprehension levels are third grade level...
Just because you don't understand price mechanisms and how the marketplace works, it still works in a predictable way. Our brothers and sisters did good work, but they were helped by the shortage. What is so wrong in saying that? if there was a glut of good pilots, a raise would have been either...
Where I think you are wrong is this: if we get a large raise, and our competitors could attract enough quality pilots without similar raises of their own because there are plenty of pilots out there, then we would be faced with competitors undercutting us and taking away some of our customers...
The shortage has EVERYTHING to do with what the company can afford. If the marketplace forces our competitors to pay more too, then NJA is not harmed by treating us generously. And those applicants are also applying at the majors.
Thanks for the info. The union boards are a little too much for me and my buds. Having said that, my opinions about unions have changed somewhat in the last few years, thanks in part to some of you on this site. Our union seems to do a good job, without beggaring our employer. That is a RADICAL...
I would be saying those things but for the pilot shortage. The marketplace, along with the union, forced NJA to give us a good deal and it won't harm the company. I am really glad the FOs will get a significant bump.
For not being angry at the early offers? Do the union members expect the company to offer a massive raise initially? Negotiations don't work like that. As the process continues, the offers will improve. We want lots, they want to give us little. Eventually a good deal will emerge. Or NJA won't...
Many of the pilots who agree with me HAVE been through the process before. I don't always agree with the Luthi clones. Your behavior here reinforces my opinions about union fanatics. I have met several, and they are unpleasant people, without exception. Boorish, ignorant of what market forces...
It is a negotiation. Do you expect the company's early offer to be high? Negotiations don't work that way. All pilots I flew with last several tours agree with me. Let the negotiations proceed, and see what the result is. Then we decide if we like it or not. We don't understand the anger DURING...
