You gotta love factual journalism.
He put his back out swinging his bag into place on the 73 cockpit and he's been out on medical since then. The reason this is making news now, is that he has 3 years to sue for further loss off income, due to an injury sustained at work.
Dont know him but...
2 years into flying in Australia, after 12 years in the US, I've come to the conclusion it's because they have sub-concious feeling of inferiority. It's almost as if they (the Australians in particular) have to make operating an aircraft as difficult as possible, just to prove they're better at...
I should've stayed for at least another 12 months. Although Air Whisky was far from the place it was when I joined. But I wouldn't have missed out on the various opportunities to move on, that have surfaced since I left.
Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of positives to flying in Australia...
And your new favorite words to describe Australian aviation culture will be Pedantic, anal-retentive, frustrating and monotonous.
I wouldn't recommend flying here to anyone.
Jetstar getting bigger has always been the end game, at least in my personal opinion. This move by the management of QF was planned weeks, if not months ago. They had spoken to other CEO's in the Star Alliance and booked extra hotel rooms before the announcement, yesterday.
They have no...
.
GL,
With the greatest of respect, I don't think you're aware of how the QF group and their pilots fit together.
QF didn't do any domestic flying until after the pilots' strike of '89, they only flew internationally. When QF bought Australian Airlines, they acquired a domestic network...
You can't throw the phrase "struck work" around when talking about this.
Firstly it's only the QF long haul pilots who are trying to negotiate a new CBA, not the domestic pilots. They are on a completely different contract. Any extra flights that Virgin is doing is only domestic and only to...
It's not always easy to return home after having done the expat thing and while the rest of the world may not care about the magical 1000 turbine PIC, it's an insurance policy if you do want to come home.
I'd wait.
I used to catch a cab from the pax terminal. Can't remember the address but here's the number for Atlas Ops in ORD.

It's a bit cold and wet down here at the moment.
Just for those that are interested, at the Southern Hemisphere 73 operator I work for, we just started slecting VNAV on the ground for STD and NADP1 T/O's.
Select VNAV on the ground and accept the default Acceleration Height of 1000' agl for STD departures and change to 3000' agl for NADP1...
Virgin Blue is under going a bit of a reinvention to take on Qantas. Part of the change is a name change to Virgin Australia. It only happened last week, so people are still getting used to it.
Actually chief, my sim partner and class mate was ex US Navy, married to an Aussie girl. So no different than my situation when I came to the US.
And by the way, I have both US and Australian citizenship.
I've just finished my first year in the 737 at Virgin Blue, having spent the previous 9 years at Atlantic Coast and Air Whisky. In terms of pay and conditions, it's infinitely better. There is far more respect for pilots from both the traveling public and the ground staff that I work with...
...brought it's aircraft and pilots over to fly the struck work, that is. So that's the reason for the extra points.
Anyway, currently VB and Jet* are both hiring. But like I said on Cliffs post on the "other" website, we have guys lining up down the street for jobs, so I don't really see a...
...Job security.
Pay, (2nd year 73 FO is AU$140k)
Folks aren't getting any younger.
Oh and I got very tired of the constant, daily bull******************** I had to put up with at a Regional. It was either move or leave flying.
Like all things aviation, it is what it is. Weigh up the pro's...
...here is very different. For example, the airspace is not user-friendly for 121 ops and you're constantly having to make sure your're not about to ******************** up by flying into uncontrolled airspace. Also, anal dosen't even begin to explain the RT procedures here. Miss a single word...
