And to those same "young commuter pilots":
When I said "working for one ACMI is pretty much the same as working for any other..." The example of Southern Air and Kalitta first came to mind...
I don't know what this Gear Yanker's personal beef is with Southern, he might have been turned down...
Southern calls them Tech Reps, and they tend to stay at one of our destinations (to meet us upon arrival), unless the aircraft is on a AdHoc/DOD trip, or is travelling to SA. (Then they ride along)
I know they get paid pretty well (from what I understand), and they get the same per diem as the...
Wait a sec, Gear Yanker...
You work for Kailtta, and you're giving people at any other ACMI crap...???
Are you serious...
The last thing I want to hear is some "pot" calling the "kettle" black.
Make yourself feel better about your own workplace (whichever version of the many...
I'm tired of arguing with you.
Why dontcha save us all a lot of time and tell us where you ended up moving to, so we all know the name of a perfect operation to apply to...???
C'mon. fess up.
What would the internet be, without the Legions of "Know-It-Alls" with the time and motivation to lecture the rest of us how things really are, and how they should be...???
Listen up Pal...
Your whole post was meant to sling mud.
By inference, your claim to know what's "going on" at...
I did not miss the point. You have a beef with Southern because of the recent Cargo 360 merger, and you wanted to hijack the thread to continue to badmouth the place.
Was there some other point to your thread, or did you just feel a need to call me dishonest...?
No, he does not.
There is a...
After your backpedal on the second post, I can see that you already decided that blaming this event on maintentance (based only on heresay) is unprofessional at best...
Really...?
Because in the last year there have been 16 of these Captain Qual'd F/O's, and a number of additional pilots who were offered the chance (yet wanted to get some right seat time first). Most have since "upgraded", and now have full status as a Captain, and two were even promoted to...
Well, it depends a lot on what you are looking for.
Obviously if you want to make a career of flying ACMI, then the more static outfits might be your thing. While Southern has some decent long term potential, for the near term it is going to be in a real state of flux.
Look to the regional...
Ten days off is what you are scheduled for, but the company will often hit you up to trade a few of em in return for overtime pay when things get busy (or you happen to be on the side of planet earth that they need someone). Many guys do so in order to rack up bigger paychecks (80-120 hours)...
Well, I know they did not hire a fair number of the people in my interview class two years ago. And I know that they are trying to screen people better with a basic sim ride included in the process. But I would not describe the process as difficult, as IMO they tend to look for someone that will...
Well, its just my opinion, but what kind of flying you accomplished matters a lot too.
If you have international and/or over water experience, they like that. Having flown cargo (and thus being used to the enviorment is a plus. Remember that some of our senior guys came over from the C-130...
It is a Company that handles scheduling + travel for various airlines, one of which was Cargo 360. It is meant to improve our operation and hopefully provide better schedules/QOL for the Pilots + PFE's.
The transition proces has just started though, so it will take time to see what kind of...
Not sure if you just wanted a bunch of so called industry expert's opinions of Southern Air..., Or some actual info...
But just in case you actually wanted info, hiring at Southern has been brisk, and will continue so well into next year.
We have hired 68+ Pilots and 21+ FEs since July...
I am planning to relocate back home to the Omaha, NE area in the future. Does anyone have any infomation on pilot positions based in/around the Omaha area (OMA, LNK, MLE...)...???
Thanks
How you established your senority for your own purposes is unimportant to this issue, since our pilot group was good enough to give you a date of hire merger with our list, and it is only right and fair that you use the same method we (and every other airline I know of) use to determine DOH...
No...
Because I've been around the block long enough to know that those things pale in comparison to making sure you get your rightful place on the senority list.
And I'm betting you have too, so don't patronize me.
Let me put it to you this way.
You are hired when you start getting paid.
"Swimming" in a hiring pool awaiting a class date is not the same thing as being hired, and that is the industry norm
Unless C360 was paying you while you were awaiting a class date (for months in some cases), then...
I fail to understand why any of the C360 pilots were given anything other than the first day of class as your hire date...
To have some from C360 list their date of hire based upon your inteview date is bad enough..., Let alone half of your pilots one way, and the other half by 1st class...
