    Pay for training

Good point - but perhaps some preemptive action could be taken if enough people demanded it. Surely there's enough people on this site who hate PFT to start a significant letter writing campaign. All you need is one committee member to write the legislation. Call it the "KEEP PLANES FROM...

    Pay for training

Not knowing much about the history of PFT (aside from what I've read on flightinfo) I'm curious why there hasn't been a big push to confront members of congress about the potential dangers of having people pay for a required crew position. Perhaps a letter writing campaign to the House...

    jetblue skit on SNL

The commentary on how the media catastrophizes events was dead on and pretty funny ... not to mention the visual the CNN reporters did on the plane landing, catching fire, exploding, and all of the passengers running out on fire (plus the fire trucks exploding too). Oh yeah, and the impression...

    Soloed ... finally!

Was barely able to get to the trim wheel, but I won't tell you how long it took him to squeeze out of the aicraft when he got out to let me solo. Let's just say that I had to open MY door to help him get out, and the whole process probably cost me $10 in tach time. Many thanks for the kind...

    Soloed ... finally!

Just wanted to share my excitment at having finally soloed today. I had twice started working on my private before and had to stop both times right before solo due to issues with my medical. So this was my second time flying with the new FBO I'm with (having moved since my last attempts). At...

Don't read "Flight Matrons Protest..." thread if ...

... you don't want to read a spoiler for the movie Flight Plan. The threat contains information about the movie that will ruin it for you if you haven't seen it already. Just wanted to give you guys the heads up I wish I'd been given.

Both hands on yoke during landing?

Thanks a lot for everyone's advice ... I think I'll try and get in the habit of using one hand - I can do it, it just seemed like my flare's and landings were a lot smoother with two. I have less than 100 landings, though, so I've got some time to work out the kinks.

Both hands on yoke during landing?

I started gripping the yoke with two hands upon returning to flying after a several year hiatus. My first several flights back, however, were in pretty strong winds. I think it just felt more comfortable to have two hands on the yoke in a significant crosswind. I guess it's sort of habit now...

Both hands on yoke during landing?

Like most pilots, I was told that you need to keep your right hand on the throttle and your left on the yoke when landing small GA aircraft. I had one instructor, however, suggest that I keep both hands on the yoke if I felt like it would improve my control during the flare. I found that it...

    R.i.p.

Since witnesses reported that the engine was producing a constant sound, and it hadn't cut all together, is it possible that he lost a cylinder or two?

Look out for environmentalist wackos, England!

I love when people with no background in science make bold assertions about things they couldn't possibly understand. Like the conservative radio hosts that continually discourage theories of global warming. Kinda reminds you of earlier conservatives who referred to the idea of the earth not...

    civil air patrol

This may not be a concern for you, but I visited a CAP unit and attended a meeting in Florida. I was turned off by the religiousness of the unit. Since most of the youth members were sponsored by a church, I felt more like I was at a revival than a search and rescue operation. That and most...

    Google Earth

Yeah, but the software just came out, I think. It offers a lot more features, and you can zoom in further. The best feature is the ability to rotate the camera to have more of a horizontal view than the simple over the top shot the pictures give you.

    Google Earth

Hey guys, I've found Google Earth to be an awesome program for GA flight planning purposes. The program gives you a detailed sattelite map of most urban areas (and their surrounding areas). It's good for GA planning because you can identify nearby buildings, roads, etc. - especially if it's...

    Shared Time Building

I recently found an FBO that advertises 50 hours of C-150 time building for $700 (dry). In their add they mention pairing you up with another pilot. How exactly does this work? I'm assuming one person serves as a safety pilot. Does that mean the other pilot has to be under the hood? Can two...

    New pilot eager for advice!!!!

Get your medical before making any long term plans - you never know when a medical issue you were never aware of might come up in your evaluation and either delay, or perhaps prohibit your dream. My medical circumstances took so long to take care of that I went to college, then to grad school...

    New Orleans... very sad

If I remember correctly, didn't the french quarter actually fare pretty well in the whole thing? If it was an act of an angry god, she must be a big fan of irony.

    september 11th

No Tomct, I'm not in the military - but I come from a military family, and though this may shock you, they each feel the same way I do. There's a difference between dying for something and dying for nothing. Just because you go around saying that you're fighting "to defend America's liberty"...

"ME, a NAZI RACIST? you fool ! I hate everyone the same amount !!!!!!" For the time, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree as the saying goes ... gotta say, I commend your honesty, though.

In convair's defense, I don't think he was necessarily supporting the remarks made by gunslinger (although he may for all I know) but was just calling me out on my use of language. I'm not a big fan of racial profiling, or restrictive immigration policies, but I can understand why people feel...
