I've only hiked the trails there in the summer, but I understand the skiing is great. If nothing else, a drive down there for lunch is well worth it.
This time of year is slim pickin's due to lack of daylight. Make use of what light you have and get out and sight see. The other 20 hours you...
The aeroplanner site will allow me to plot only one LAT/LON at a time. Anyone know of a site that will let me plot multiple LAT/LONs on one chart?

Does anyone know of a website...correction - FREE...website that will plot LAT/LON on a sectional for printing purposes? I'm working on something where I have about 55 LAT/LON's to plot and rather than go blind with a sectional and pen, I was wondering if there was an online tool that would do...
I couldn't agree more. I've never lived there but do spend about a month out of the year there most years. I have been asked to move there for a job and turned them down mainly due to the winter darkness. Of course, being that far away from family played a large part too. In a perfect world...
Well, technically speaking, you are correct. However, the sun is barely above the horizon for those 5 hours, and I DO mean barely. Some days it is not directly visible due to the mountains south of Anchorage. But, technically speaking, you are correct, the sun IS above the HORIZON, just like...
If we're talking about the same Astra, it's long gone. They're now flying a Westwind and had a couple of G3's. I believe they have just gotten a GIV plus several bush/float/amphib aircraft.
I've got a friend who lives there and loves it. Flies floats to Gulfstreams.
As for the winter, Anchorage isn't that bad. In fact, I'd call it mild compared to a typical midwest (MN,WI) winter. To me the killer is darkness. That is what makes winter so tough in ANC, IMHO.

The Westwind job WASN'T the governor's plane. For that you need to apply to the State of Alaska. Though they act like it sometimes, I highly doubt they'd advertise the job as a "Private Company."

Enclosed walking a definite plus there in the winter! I lived in and around RST for about 14 years. I managed the line department at the old FBO at the airport while learning to fly. Geez, thats nearly 20 years ago!
If I have the runway I'll carry an extra five knots and literally fly it on the runway. Seems to work for me. We all have slumps so don't sweat it. For me it seems the more the challenge, the better the landing. I can muff one good on a perfectly calm day and the next one I'll roll it on...
According to C&D, on a 600nm trip, the variable costs on a Citation II runs $1131/hr, the LR35 is $1460. Note they figure fuel at $2.91/gallon, so those figures will be up a bit.
