Let's see if I get the jist of this thread. I am supposed to put a 3-4k transponder in my 10k glider, so professional jet pilots can safely read the newspaper at work. If you're not looking out the window what' the hell is the point of flying? Chicks? Money? Prestige?
Pathetic
Hard Cheese. If you are flying equipment with CVR then your last words might get into the public domain. It may be morbid, but it is one of the potential unfortunate outcomes of your career.
FYI sugarbush 0b7? airport is closed in the winter, with the exception of ski equipped planes with prior permission. The airport operates as a X country ski area in winter.
You could probably get from RUT to killington pretty easy, I would guess that there is a shuttle from either the airport or downtown. Call the fbo and ask.
Bit of a hijack, Flight Of passage is a cool book written by one of two brothers who rebuilt a cub and flew it from NJ to Cal, and back when they were teenagers.
It's better now. As long as the thread titles are reasonably accurate let the non-av stuff be in with everything else, less searching around for a laugh.
Hampton airfield in Hampton NH 603-964-6749. About two years ago they were doing type ratings in a DC-3. Something like $900 an hour iirc. Don't know if they still have it.
Google FLARM I understand that is very popular w/sailplane pilots in Europe. If I recall correctly it broadcasts position from gps position to the same units within a couple of miles. Allegedly the manufacturer will not bring it to the US because of liability concerns. Keep those eyes outside...
The guy I spoke with claimed getting a usable russian suit hadn't worked out. They probably didn't find the right guy. I don't know why they don't just call the EAA I'm sure they could whip something up.
There was/is a couple of people talking about beating kittinger's record. I heard from someone involved that the two big problems were money of course no one wanted to sponser it. And governments aren't to keen on selling or loaning out spacesuits.
Joseph Kittenger is the one who made the 100,000+ foot parachute jump in the 60's. Steve Fossett is attempting to break 100,000 feet in a sailplane using mountain wave. There is a hell of a lot more interesting things that fly then powered airplanes.
dream2fly2007 understand that pilotyip's position is valid onlywith the qualifier of being a pilot without other options. Of course not having flown for a living you really don't know whether or not it is for you. And college is easier and a lot more fun at 18 than 30.
Go to college fly on...
In some way I have to agree with this. The college is for when the flying is no longer fun, economically viable, tolerable, etc. That said college is easier to get done when you are young. Pilot wages are going to keep on falling, because they can. Flying as a profession already is but will...
1. Go to college, any college, get an undergraduate degree in anything. Seriously.
2. Be aware that for some people, perhaps yourself hard to know until you've been there, what you do for work becomes work.
3. If you don't heed #2 you might run out of entertaining pasttimes someday.
