    Alaska rumors...

Latest Alaska rumors: A class on the 30th, and one in March and one in April. HR has moved into the Flight Ops building because they are going to start interviewing soon and plan on doing a lot. The sim and the board interview would be in the same building under that scenario.

UAL pilot found after 6 days overdue!

Awesome story! Nice to hear some good news in aviation once in a while. Kudos to United and the Air Force for laying claim to this airman. From the Anchorage Daily News... Missing pilot found alive near Seldovia SURVIVOR: Helicopter crew to rescue Wasilla man today after six days in the...

Expensive oil, or a weak dollar?

I think this is aviation related since the price of oil directly affects the ability of our employers to make a profit. We've been seeing quite a run up of oil prices as we are all aware. I was noticing the trend in the Canadian to U.S. dollar exchange rate and it got me thinking. The U.S...

    Bad news for Alaska poolies...

A reduction bid was posted today that reduces 12 MD FO positions in Seattle and 4 737 FO positions in LA, both effective 3-2-05. That was the same day the bid with 34 new hires was to become effective. I'm pretty sure that means only 18 new hires on 3-2-05, 12 in ANC, 6 in SEA, and none in LA...

    I just broke a year.

A year of my life at the controls of an aircraft. 8760 hours. Certainly a milestone. Does anyone else keep track of that one?

Passing the plane next to you on final...

It was recently pointed out to me ("Might want to read your FOM") that our company prohibits an aircraft on a visual approach from passing an aircraft doing the visual to a parallel runway. I'm not aware of any FAR prohibiting this when both aircraft are of the same category, i.e, both are...

Pilot suspect in fed. prosecut. murder.

Sounds like he might have been furloughed from a major. Seattle Times Link FBI agents removed 27 boxes of possible evidence during a search yesterday of the home of a Bellevue airline pilot who is the prime suspect in the 2001 slaying of Seattle federal prosecutor Thomas Wales. In another...

    KPSP last night...

I'm sure I wasn't the only one on this board trying to get into Palm Springs last night. That had to have been the first time in history that the dew point was higher in Palm Springs than it was in Seattle. Anyway, that has to be the most worthless approach I have ever seen. A VOR approach...

    A conservative vs. the neo-cons...

I don't find myself agreeing with Pat Buchanan very often, so I thought I'd steer you folks to his latest article in The American Conservative to see who else he could shock. Click Here. I guess its not just Pat's sense of humor I admire, but also his integrity and patriotism.

Know of an interline condo deal in FL?

I've got some vacation time coming up and I apparently flunked web surfing, because I can't find a whole lot out there. Does anyone happen to know of a decent site for interline condo deals? I'm looking in the Naples area. Gracias...

    Question for MD/DC-9 drivers.

Anyone who has flown this airplane knows that if you go to slats extend, you get a serious balloon effect when you subsequently go to flaps 11. The usual cure is to move the flap handle very slowly to mitigate the rapid change in center of lift when the flaps are extended with the slats at mid...

    "The Crazies Are Back"

Many of us on this board were making these points before the war, but were generally shouted down as being cowards or ignorant of the intelligence community's desire to protect "sources and methods". I thought it interesting to hear former senior CIA officers who served under Reagan and Bush...

    LCC upgrade time?

The "major" I work for has informed us that the want to cut our pay based on the average of the 8 major carriers and the "4 LCC's that fly in our markets". However, averaging 10 year Jetblue FO pay into everyone else's is a blatant attempt to skew the data in their favor, as there are no 10...

    Nightvision goggles and moonlight.

It looks like we are going to war any day now, but right now the moon is full. Wouldn't it make sense to wait until a new moon, or is that not so critical? What is the ideal amount of moonlight for using night vision goggles? A sliver? None? Is it better to have moonlight for an airborne...
