AA Pilots haven't even considered it. They did offer to pay for useless memberships to AEPS though. What a joke. Those of us that are getting hosed now need to remember this so that one day we don't do the same to those that come after us.
$50 to throw your name in the hat with the thousands already in there. I guess FedEx probably needs the money more than the unemployed pilots who will throw $50 for even the smallest of chances. Wish I could have my 50 bucks back. Good luck to all.
PASS Cards
These study cards are good. I had my wife get me them for Christmas (Hey, it was an unemployed Christmas at my house!). Email for John Pansmith (the guy who makes them) is [email protected]. His phone # is (480) 963-6399. My understanding is most everybody buys them sooner or...
Last I heard, the senate passed a bill extending unemployment and sent it to the house. I'm hoping it gets passed soon. My benefits run out this week! I need another month or so if I can get it.
USAFA Admissions

Bottom line, you are definitely competitive (if you keep it for the next few years!) If it's what you want, definitely give it a shot.
Good Luck
I am a furloughed AA pilot. The best way I can describe AMR/AA/TWA/AE is to equate them to a family. An extremely DYSFUNCTIONAL family. I honestly don't know the entire history (I was only there a few weeks) but the result is that today the relationship between all the players is totally...
International Space Station?
It may have been the ISS. With the solar arrays it is now the third brightest light in the sky (after the sun and moon). Brighter than Jupiter. Go to http://spaceflight.nasa.gov to find times to see it in your area. It's impressive.
clarification
Jball (the guy with 14 Mar next to his name on the poolie list) posted a couple days ago to clarify that he hadn't gotten the official invite to class on 14 Mar yet. He was just told to expect it by JM. So far, the latest class they are making official invites to is 28 Feb...
I got my type at Higher Power. It was a good program but they don't use SWA flows. Who cares though. I've already pretty much forgotten them and will learn the SWA flows when the time comes. Remember, you get your type in the left seat, your initial SWA training will be in the right seat so...
Actually, the latest "official" forecast is 420. My guess it will still be higher than that. 420 is assuming they stop hiring in August for the year. Any classes from Sep - Dec will add to the number.
Dates
AwaitingSWA posted this:
I talked to Jennifer yesterday. I brought up the fact that some of my friends who had interviewed months after me had gotten classes already (they had their types before the interview). She said 1) if you have your type before the interview, they use your...
I was wondering what people have been doing to document their job search. This isn't a line of work where you can beat the streets each week looking for a job. My search has consisted of updating apps and resumes and calling SWA once a month. Fortunately, I haven't been asked to produce a job...
I wouldn't exactly call it an extension of the interview, but I would highly recommend you hang around for it. Expressing as much interest as possible in the entire Southwest Airlines operation certainly can't hurt. It's an interesting tour but I thought maybe a llittle longer than necessary...
I told my wife that when 2 things happened, I would believe SWA was really planning to hire 600-650 pilots this year:
1. Announcing a class starting Jan 31 and
2. Increasing class size to 26/class
My math showed they needed a class of 26 pretty much every 2 weeks to reach that number. (26...
Washington
Collecting $478/week from Washington. I've actually been getting $430/week after tax withholding but think I'll get most of that back since my income last year was pretty grim. Looks like I'm the one to beat so far......
Definitely dump COBRA unless you:
a: have a lot of money to waste and want to pay too much for insurance or,
b: have a pre-existing condition that wouldn't be covered.
My wife is pregnant and due this month. The 500+ dollars we paid COBRA to keep United Healthcare (AAs health insurance) this...
Jennifer told me there was a class tentatively scheduled in early May also. Nothing about June or August yet but they are hopeful. They are interviewing in Feb (i.e. adding to the pool) so they must know something......
