You may not know what your airspeed is during a slip. The ASI may be innacurate due the the angle of the air entering the pitot tube and the location of the static port.
We hired an ATP (JAX) MEI at a flight school that I was teaching at. The guy didn't get hired initially at ATPs. He turned out to be a complete frat-boy jackass who not only couldn't teach, but couldn't fly worth a crap either. Had no clue how an ADF worked, since all their a/c are GPS...
Any startup, air taxi or otherwise shouldn't have to pay below average wages. In any other industry, a startup would have to pay above average wages to offset the uncertainty of the company's survival and attract qualified applicants.
Equity in the company should come as a reward for charter...
Nayak is kind of a ghetto FBO as far as facilities are concerned. My dad flight instructed there in the 60s and 70s to give you an idea of the age of the facility. Also a much longer taxi to the usual active, although there's never any delay there. There are two Piedmonts--Peidmont south is...
Ah, yes, I too have not-so-fond memories of flying the Sky Buick for hours and hours and hours. The one I flew was such a POS it had Rayjays and still had a service cieling of about 10000'. I guess I should be grateful that it taught me what it's like to handle an engine failure and in flight...
Forgot to mention it although it probably goes without saying, don't buy yellow Gatorade. Don't want to confuse it with the pee. (I still almost hurl when I think about the time I almost drank from someone's spit cup...)
I've seen a couple of "nice looking" ones, but really wouldn't wish that plane on my enemies. The one I used to fly tried killing me several times.
A Twin Comanche is probably the best buy in a light twin. Fast and super efficient, which is nice with fuel prices being what they are.
Gatorade bottle with the wide mouth. Emtpy the bottle, then fill it back up again...had to use a sick sack once and believe me, the bottle is much easier.
Did SAT to OSH and back half a dozen times in a C-140. First time map and compass only, second time newfangled LORAN, 5th with a newfangled handheld GPS. Fun stuff.
Couple of years ago took a 172 that I owned from SAT-JAX (one fuel stop in MSY) overnight in JAX, then to TMB. Then TMB-ORF...
The other day I said "Center, 1234, request." Twice. And it wasn't even busy. Broke my own rule. Still shaking my head at that one. Must've been more tired than I thought.
"Hiding" airplanes as you put it is actually quite common for many people/entities. You'll find everything from 172s to 757s on the registry with obscure registered owners with addresses at some Delaware attorney's office.
The reasons are many, with liability being one of the biggies. If a...
