I am a poolie and the pool is starting to shallow. I wanted to try and get a heads up on the FMS on board.

If someone would like to tell me what brand of FMS you guys use would be great. I am looking to get some info on it to try and geat a head start in training.

Also any comments on wether this is a good idea or not would be apreciated.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure that all 737s use Collins.

Nagative....we use the Smith's FMS....but not to worry, Island....you'll get all the training you'll need at the Training Center.

Not that there's anything wrong with what you are trying to do now...but, dont stress yourself....if you get some info on the Smith's box...look at it for...oh...3-4 minutes per day...maybe less...and you should be OK

Smith's? Never heard of it. Got a link to the company or anything?

No "auto" stuff please (brakes, throttles, land, etc.)

They probably have most of the functions de-activated anyway and just use it to look up VOR freqs anyway. ;)

I keeeed - You know I luv youse guys.

Tejas,

Thanks...i googled the Smith's FMS and there is an 8 minute video on how to program it.

Thanks again...going from the SAAB to the 73 is going to be fun! The sim for the type ride went well but we just breezed over the FMS...

See you in Dallas!

You have never heard of Smith? Every Boeing aircraft I have flown, or jumpseated on (with the exception of the B-727 at AA) have used Smith FMC's.

Smith FMC's are on the majority of Boeing aircraft out there.

I'm pretty sure our 737s are equipped with a Collins FMS, but I could be wrong. The 717s have Honeywell (which I hate). CRJs use Collins, which I thought was a great system, just lacking a couple of features.

737=smiths FMC

My advice, and I think most would agree, is to spend as much time with family and friends. Your gonna be away and or busy once this all starts. The program is paced very well and you will have no trouble with it. When you get the package from DAL, look over the flows a little if you want to get a head start. Other than that, doing something to build up your tolerance to adult beverages might be a good idea as well. In short, relax and prepare to have a great time!

I found that you are either the dumbass or paired with a dumbass. Or you are either hung over or paired with someone who is hung over. Either way it all balances out in training. And you will be either of the above or all of the above at one time or another in training. And it is never a problem when the whole class is hungover and as SMRT as a dumbass on any particular day.

Either way have fun and you have enough time to study when you arrive. I did my type years previous to class, and it came back fast enough. Yes I was the dumbass my partner was paired with.

Hopefully ya'all know I am SMRT too!
