I was in STS about three months ago with a 172 and I had an awesome local controller. He had me slip in behind a lear, but in front of a King Air. It was a perfect sequence. They must have the best controllers there. Another time a jet was taking off and had to abort because of a engine fire. I have never seen trucks roll so fast. That same contoller must have pushed that red button in a flash. I can't wait to fly an RJ there.

Who flies RJs into Santa Rosa? I flew in there a long time ago but it wasn't an RJ. I don't particularly remember any Superman controllers but I can't say I had a bad experience there.

SkyWest used to have a station there, and used to serve Santa Rosa from both San Francisco and Los Angeles with the Emb-120's.

It was a shame when they closed it just after 9/11. That was one fun overnight in a really nice hotel!

To answer the question...........

Me............

Regarding Sierra.........(Sierra Academy I'm assuming), I thought they closed their doors. I know, I know, assumption is the mother of all f^ck ups. Just my two cents.

Roger That................

Bad 411 from someone.............I'll have to beat him about the head and shoulders at my convenience. I haven't read FT in a long time. I'll have to check my Flying mags for ads. Out of curiosity.

No kidding; I agree...

But this is a positeve thread!!! Even though it is about one of the ten thousand NOR CAL airports.

Don't even get me started on flying in CA...

Anywho..

I work for Sierra Academy and can verify we are open. We underwent a change of ownership at the beginning of the year, sparking rumors about being closed. The new owners are doing a great job and our future looks quite promising. As for STS, been there more than 20 times - seems great, but nothing that really stands out.

just a note about sts: as of short they have no radar, so be careful, especially in light of the dissecting runways, prevailing westerlies, and an ils from the south.
