Hi all, we operate a astra sp now, looking to upgrade, we need more range, short field performance, our options are falcon 50, G-100, hawker 800xp, any and all imput will help. thank-you all very much!!

Of your list, I have flown the HS-125-800XP and the DA-50EX. Of the two, I would chose the Falcon.

I would say the Falcon 50EX... I don't think the Hawker or G-100 are touted as short field aircraft... (Isn't the G-100 just an Astra???)

I thought the Astra was the G-100.
Yes it is.

Also, the Galaxy is a G-200

Gulfstream did not put a lot of thought into the whole model name change...

Asrta = 100
Galaxy= 200

GIII= 300
GIV= 400

Uhmmm, what happened to the GI and the GII?

I bet you will never in you life see a GI in a Gulfstream hangar. Even the one operator that I know of doesn't get his inside there, they send there techs to them. (mostly avionics)

Former GAC employee with bad attitude.

Gatorman,

The GIII is still named GIII.
The G300 is a lighter, less expensive G400, or a light GIV if you wish, with less MTOW and range, in order to compete with, for example, the Falcon 2000.

My vote is for the 50EX. Versatility redifined.

Here's the link to the G100 replacement - the G150:

http://www.gulfstream.com/g150/

The G150 and the H800XP are at similar price points, the G150 has the edge on range and speed, the Hawker on field performance and interior volume. The Falcon 50EX, which is a more capable aircraft than either, is $7 million more, so you would be looking at a pre-owned Falcon

For the sake of honesty, Gatorman should reveal that he was only a GAC employee for a short while as is evidenced by his Gulfstream product knowledge. He was a KC Dallas employee when Gulfstream bought that facility and couldn't make the transition to the new rule book.

both the da50/ex and hawker 800xp are great aircraft. if cost is an issue, go with 800xp - good range and has good short field at low elevations. da50 is better overall but more expensive. as for cabin size - there is not much difference between the 2;however, baggage space may be a factor. the hawker has only interior baggage space and not a lot of it. the 50 definately has more room for golf clubs etc.

That's funny!

Back to the question, I think of the airplanes Mojave mentioned the Falcon 50 is the best option. An Astra, as ugly as they are, is a lot of bang for the buck. They can go a long way (2500nm) and out of a short runway when not heavy.

Hawker 800's have less range than an Astra, and a G200 needs considerably more runway. Of the three airplanes Mojave mentioned as a possible replacement only the Falcon 50 gives better range, and short field performance than the Astra.

Some other airplanes you may want to consider are used G!V's, Falcon 2000's, Challenger 300's and Citation Sovereign's are also in that price range that will upgrade your range and short field performance.

Ooooh, you got me...

Well guys it looks like I have been ratted out, you got me GV. But as far as your 'transition' remark... I was of one of the last of the Challenger crew members that stayed there. I made a more into the Planning/Scheduling dept and got to know the system very well, even made remarkable changes to their work order and billing process. GD bought them and they bought Signature maintenance and was transferred over there. I was completely content right where I was.

....until 9/11, when GAC decided to make more cutbacks, I was in a group of about 70 in Dallas and it was about the 14th cutback that had made since the purchase.

All I can tell you is that times were hard and I am a better person to have gone through all the stuff. Now I am at a better place with alot of my old KCA friends.

GV, I hope to see you here sometime, I am sure that we can take care of you like KC did.

I would take a close look at the Citation Sovereign. It has a bit more range than the Astra/G100, and very good runway performance. Of course, if you are looking used a Falcon 50 is hard to beat.

Gatorman...

I got it wrong. I thought you were one of the guys that resented Gulfstream's KC purchase and made the transition difficult until finally following Rahilly over to the East side of LUV.

Post 9/11 Gulfstream lost a lot of good guys in Oklahoma, at Alliance and at Love Field.

GV

Nope, no friend of Rahilly, the man that stood infront of every employee in the company and pounded his fist on the podium, telling all of us "This company is not for sale! So, if you want to buy that new truck, go ahead. If you are looking at a new house, go ahead. THIS COMPANY IS NOT FOR SALE!"

Yea, I was there there that day and was proud.

Then we were sold to Gulfstream.

I was alright with it, they promised air-conditioned hangars and pay raises.
R i i i i g h t

I was alright with that too, heck, I like the hot weather. But when I heard the recorded message from Foresman (SP?) telling the management the he "did not want a potential gulfstream customer coming into a gulfstream facility and seeing anything but gulfstreams being worked on."

I was NOT alright with that.

Mind you, the Challenger crew was the best service center for Challengers. Actually, the way it was put by a large company's Chief pilot and DOM, "You are the best of the worst, and all of them are the worse, you are the best choice."
...and after the Foresman statement, we became the bastard child of gulfstream. Moved out of the very hangars that Challenger completions built and moved to the other end of the runway.

But hey, I was alright with that. I saw the writting on the hangar wall. I also saw my boss (of 10 years) jump teams and start setting up shop for Bombardier...right infront of the exile hangar I was working in.
It was like watching deer jumping over a fence, the way the crew was leaving. Sad
So, when two of the planners at GAC jumped the fence (I was in preparations too) I decided to take their job at GAC and I stayed a team member. Yeah Gulfstream PRIDE!

R i i i i g h t.

Things are all good now, I am off LUV field and with my old friends...funny, I still have the same old boss and crew cheif where I am at....hahah

Working at being the best again, but Shhhh, it is a secret.

501261 - what's so funny - as i can see you have flown neither the da50 nor the 800xp. by the way , there is a big difference in the 800a and the 800xp - do some research. When was the last time you flew an astra from KTEB TO KPSP? Well the 800 xp can do it!!!!!
