Does anyone know if the Montrose crash was a charter from the GE flight department because of demand on their own fleet?

I know GE has challengers and it was a challenger crash?

I don't believe so, but I am not sure. The aircraft may have been at GE at one point but the FAA registration is to HopAJet in FL. Of course, the records aren't updated very quickly so who knows?

Looks like a GE tailnumber though.

No i mean did GE have so many flights that day they couldn't handle the VP so they put him on a charter?

Doubtful. Ebersol chartered frequently.

From what I hear....... at Fortune 10 companies VERY FEW have access to planes for vacations, football games, etc...

This is only speculation on my part, but within the last year or so former GE CEO Jack Welch had his wings clipped on using company aircraft for personal use. I read somewhere that part of his retirement package was so many hours on their aircraft including the BBJ. This was about the same time as the Enron debacle started. While many CEO's from Fortune company's and others get to use company aircraft for personal trips, it comes at a cost to them. See NBAA for SIFL rates to understand how executives are charged for personal use of company aircraft.

I heard that the jet was under Jet Alliance's certificate and was based over in Millville, NJ. I haven't heard GE mentioned anywhere yet. I was just curious if anyone has been able to obtain a tail # from the reports.

I spoke with a buddy of mine at GE flt ops.

It was a former GE aircraft
They had nothing to do with the charter and don't use that company
for charter
They still fly Welch
The N# was N873G

Boy, I wish this statement was really true.

GE aircraft???

Yeah, twenty years ago maybe, when the plane was new.....

Why would GE (in-part)with Bombardier be flying around in a twenty year old aircraft when the 604's still have CF34 engines on them??!!

Hey gator I'll explain this slowly for the non pilots.

When a corporate flight department has too much volume to handle on a specific day they might "farm out" some trips. Either by Charter or fractional flying. This keeps them from having to add another airplane when there really is no need for it.

Since the montorose crash had a NBC VP on board and GE flies Challenger aircraft it was plausable that GE chartered the plane.

It was a high volume day.

So who gives a crap what engines it had. Re read my post and then think before you type.
