Hey guys...question

I'm trying to pursue a type rating.

Obviously I cant afford to purchase my own rating, However, I have the extra time to study on my own.
If I study on my own and pass the appropriate system test and have the sufficient Sim time can I Hire a check airmen to give me a check ride?

It would help to know what airframe you're talking about, maybe preparing for some corporate gig?

The same way you got your 767 type rating I think would be the answer.
OooBoy!! Heh! you sure showed him, huh? Yep. Gotta keep them 'wannabe's' in their place. Yep. Fire back some quick zingers to show they don't even know enough to ask a question. HooBoy!! Yep. Got him. HehHeh.

Since your so smart..whats the answer!

In a word - NO -

With 10,000 hours (and a type rating) you should know that a Check Airman cannot issue a type rating. He/she must be an DPE (or APD at a carrier).

You can get the type rating in AN AIRCRAFT with a Instructor sign off - Again with a Designee or Inspector. (Not a simulator without an approved program).

But you can study on the side all you want.

I don't see how my response is a zinger or putting a 'wannabe' in his place. He asked a question, I gave him an answer based on the information available to me.

You have 6,229 posts, and you're NOT answering the question?

No, because he sounds more like little timmy terrorist jr, asking a stupid question. He has a smart mouth, and either fake credentials, or doesn't really want to know....so no, I'm not answering the question. If his experience matched his bio, he'd know the answer.
