Uniform Appearance Standards - Pilot / First Officer

The public perception of AirTran Airways is greatly influenced by what is seen. The Company has adopted a professional style of dress to project a professional image. The appearance specifications that follow serve to perpetuate the Company image while allowing individual choices. AirTran Airways employees should always be polished, well groomed, and have a pleasant professional demeanor.

Pilot / First Officer Uniform Guide
Garments Guidelines Comments Pants
  • All pants must be hemmed/finished.
  • Pant should be hemmed to touch the top of the shoe.
  • Pants should not be cuffed or rolled.
  • Pleats on front of pants should not pull apart or be taut.
  • Pants should not fit too snugly in the seat or thigh.
  • Pants should not be baggy.
  • Pants should not be tailored to taper.
Shirts/Blouses
(Long or Short Sleeve)
  • Must be buttoned at the neck at all times.
  • Button down collars must be worn buttoned.
  • Shirts/Blouses should always be fully tucked into pants/skirts/shorts.
  • Namebar should be worn on shirt above left pocket, unless wearing a sweater/vest.
  • No turtlenecks
Hats
  • Uniform issue only.
  • Must be worn at all times when in view of the public, except on the flight deck.
  • No personal hats may be worn in public view.
Blazer
  • Uniform issue only.
  • Center button must be buttoned.
Jacket (Optional)
  • Uniform issue only.
  • Outerwear may be worn only on jetway and must be removed while performing indoor duties (gate, ticket counter, baggage service, etc).
  • No personal coats or jackets may be worn by employee while on duty, or in view of customer.
Luggage
  • Solid black with no colored piping or trim.
  • Company approved selections at HPI Direct.
  • No stickers, decals, ribbons or stuffed animals hanging from bag.
  • All bags must be company approved.
Flight Case
  • Solid black with no colored piping or trim.
  • Decals should be kept to a minimum.
  • Company approved selections at HPI Direct.
  • All bags must be Company approved.
Socks & Stockings
  • Black socks only.
  • Stockings or knee-high hose must be neutral, complementing skin tone.
  • Socks/Stockings/Hose must not have holes, snags or runs.
  • Socks cannot have any color logo, pattern or design, other than black.
Belts
  • Black Uniform issue only.
  • Belt must be worn with pants at all times.
Neckwear
  • Must be worn with shirt/blouse at all times, tied/fastened correctly.
  • Ties for males must be worn with traditional "four in hand" knot and must always cover top shirt button.
  • Uniform issue only.
  • "Free end" of male tie should always be secured in stay behind tie and should never extend beneath front of tie.
  • Male tie should be tied in length to area of belt buckle, not grossly above or below.
  • Male ties must never be tucked into pants or shirt.
Shoes
  • Solid black only.
  • Plain leather or leather look only.
  • Female heel height should not exceed 2".
  • Sole including platform should not exceed ½".
  • Male heel height should be a minimum of ¾" and not exceed 1 ½ "
  • Sole including platform should not exceed ½".
  • No patent leather or suede.
  • Plain, laced oxford or classic loafers.
  • Sole should be conservative in nature, with no visible tread from sides.
  • Rubber/plastic tipped heels only (no taps).
  • Heel and sole must be identical in color to shoe body (including rubber and crepe).
  • No bits, buckles, tassels, tongue tassels or separate color trim.
  • No wing tips permitted.
UnderGarments
  • Female crew members are required to wear undergarments and a bra at all times.
  • Men are required to wear brief/boxer undergarments at all times while in uniform.
  • Bras should be white and not have a pattern or design visible through shirt/blouse.

Duuude, ain't nobody said anything about the patterns on mine, except dey were pretty!
 
That could be a good thing... who gets to perform the panty check on the FAs? We wouldn't want anyone violating company dress codes, gotta make random checks!
