I just bought one on eBay. It doesn't have the headband. I bought a custom molded earpiece and had it made to fit my ear, but I can't figure out how it all fits together. The small boom assembly of the 5x5 has a little protruding 'screw' that is threaded, and I'm assuming that this is what is fixed into the earpiece I had made. Is that right? I can't see how these two pieces, once together, will be supported on the side of my head. It has a clip that I can put on my sunglasses, but I don't always wear them.

anyone that uses this headset, I'd appreciate your input. also, how do you like it?

thanks

The earmold should have a threaded insert. If not the mold supplier didn't make you the correct mold. The boom is held on to the mold with the threaded screw. Just the tension of the mold in your ear will hold it all in place. In the louder cockpit airplanes you might want to consider a mold for each ear with a y adapter and a tube connecting both earmolds. Sound in both ears and a bit of noise attenuation.

the mold came with a small popsickle stick looking thing that was screwed onto the mold and can be removed. This I'm assuming is what is placed into the boom assembly via the tension clip on the side. it also has a small piece of clear, flexible tubing that goes from where this 'stick' is attached to mold. the other end, I'm assuming, is placed over the small protruding 'screw' that I mentioned (protrudes at about a 45 degree angle from the small assembly that the boom is attached to). this is the only way I can figure it works, but it seems weird to me that the sound goes through this little tube.

anyway, please let me know if I'm not understanding this thing. I put it all together this way and it does stay in my ear fine.

Your tube routing is correct. The sound travels from the threaded protrusion through the tube into the ear mold.
