You'll pay half that price if you do it right. $100 is the price you'll pay though if you pass up several opportunities to pay earlier, waiting until you get to the gate. Why would someone do that unless they're trying to cheat the system in which case they deserve it.

Of course then they'll just bitch and moan and blame the airline.

HAHA I love it. I hate flying on Spirit but I love how they are viewed as ruthless and mean etc, in spite of their planes being constantly full and they are profitable.

Spirit is the new Southwest, no frills, no BS, making money doing what other airlines wont do

I think it is a great idea for Spirit to do this. I love it when other airlines treat their customers like ********************.

Because it's so ridiculous, nobody would even think about an airline charging you for that?

Next time you're at a restaurant, wouldn't you be a little miffed if $50 was added to your bill for the glasses your drinks came in?

"Well, sir, you could have paid the hostess $20, but you didn't. So you must be trying to cheat the system, in which case you deserve it."

See how ridiculous that sounds?

But its not a secret charge that they spring on you at the gate. If it was then it would bring boarding to screeching halt (because of the ensuing riot), rather than speed it up as intended. Spirit does not want to deal with this at the gate.
