ATW had a neat article on Spirit, the lowest cost airline. How the carry on baggage fees have eliminated a lot of carry on baggage. This had reduced turn time by 8-10 minute. Giving greater on-time performance and they said happy passengers because boarding and deplaning are much faster now.

Agreed! Airlines have the whole baggage fee thing ass backwards. Checked bags should be free and carry-ons should be charged. It would save lots of time AND aggravation for both the flight attendants AND other passengers.

Ive been a commuter on them a couple times and boarding is very quick now even with putting 150 people on a 319. Not to mention a savings of 10 mins per leg may allow an extra leg to be flown everyday. That would bring the cost of the a/c lease/mortage down significantly on a per flight basis.

While I'm sure it would work well for a small airline it hasn't worked so well for a large one. SWA comes to mind, it's killing their on time performance. Maybe people should just buy bags that fit and the stus just do their jobs After all, walking up and down the isle serving a coke on an airplane was not supposed to be a "career". The Europeans have figured it out, for some reason we can't.

I'm outa here, it's "bring your mom to work day"!!

might work for SWA

They already have free bags, charging for carry on would might put more bags in the belly, and speed up turns. Might give SWA pilots a chance to make more money.
