Pipe, you must hate capitalism and everything it stands for. Do you protest Walmart and Target stores too?

As a matter of fact I don't care for those outfits either. This whole country has become one big giant discounter. Those stores you speak of carry nothing but cheap, crappy products imported from abroad to quench our pathetic appetites for cheap goods(or services, as it relates to southworst) due not necessarily to capitalism, but from our governments abysmal trade policies of the past few decades. Take me back to the day of the good ole mom and pop hardware store...etc.

right- i don't like our trade policies- but w/ southwest you're just being bitter- they've beaten all of us- are happier and better paid b/c of it-- Just think- who's happy w/ the legacies?
Employees?
Investors?
Customers?
CEO's ..... probably the only ones.

But most everyone is happy w/ southwest- that has to tell you something. If they are providing such a bad service, why do they consistently rank higher than legacies in customer service ? c'mon- brother- it's getting silly...

Oh-- and boycott walmart and vote Obama.

all these haters; southwest has it going on and now nobody can stand it. play on southwest, it is your sandbox, do what you want with it.

Pipe, Mom and pop cannot compete. Ever compare the prices a a local hardware store to that of Home Depot or Lowes. Most of the time it is a 10-20% markup. What do you get for that same item? You get that warm feeling that you are helping someone stay in business. I am all for charity, but when it comes to business you have to compete. If people wanted the service and ammenities that the legacies were offering, then they could price their product as such. What does this tell us...The legacies product is not as superior to SWA as you think it is. I know many of you want the glory days of avation back, but the business and luxury travelers of the past are flying on private jets these days.

Southwest would not be providing the service that they do at the price they do if the market did not demand it. Arguably, they are one of the only passenger airlines actually listening to the demand of the people and their workers. People love to fly on their airplanes (knowing full well what they are getting for their dollar). Employees seem to like working there. They pay one of the highest salaries for passenger pilots.

Southwest did not come in and make people buy tickets on their airplanes. They saw a need and filled it. That is how businesses get ahead in this world. The big ones that stop paying attention to what the customer wants are the ones that fail usually in any industry.

And where do you think SWA would be if the gamble had failed? I think you might need to examine your quarterly reports to understand this.

I think that helps you feel better- but i think you underestimate the 'southwest effect' and how much more control they have over pricing than the vast majority of their competitors. My theory only=- bc they run so much more efficiently- they can still do well w/o hedging b/c they have more ability to raise fares.
