From fly.faa.gov "Due to OTHER/ACFT INCIDENT, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Newark International Airport, Newark, NJ (EWR)."

From CNN: "Two planes reportedly collide on the ground at Newark International Airport, New Jersey. No word on injuries yet."

My Aunt: Continental and Lufthansa

Anybody know what's acutally going on?

Officials report delays on departures

(Newark-WABC, October 31, 2006) - Eyewitness News has learned that two aircraft clipped wings on a taxiway at Newark International Airport on Tuesday night -- just days after a Boeing 747 missed the runway at the same airport and landed on the taxiway.

An Air traffic control source tells Eyewitness News that the incident happened before 7 p.m. Officials are reporting that there are delays on departures at the airport. Right now, there are no immediate reports of any injuries.

The two aircraft are described to Eyewitness News as a Lufthansa 747 with 294 passengers and crew on board and a Continental 757 that was under tow, perhaps to a maintenance hangar.

We're told the Lufthansa jet was preparing to depart Newark and had its left wing clipped by the right wing of the Continental jet. It is unclear whether there were any passengers on board the Continental jet.

Wow, a 747 "missed the runway"! I would have thought that would have made the news. I've missed the centerline before, but not the entire runway. Oh wait, maybe they are talking about the 757 that landed on the taxiway. Well it's only one number different, they are pretty much the same airplane.

2 Planes Clip Wings at Newark Airport
Wednesday November 1, 10:29 am ET Loaded Jetliner Clips Wings With Plane Being Towed in 2nd Incident in a Week at Newark Airport

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A loaded Lufthansa jet departing for Germany clipped wings with another plane in the second taxiway incident at Newark Liberty International Airport in less than a week, authorities said.
None of the 311 passengers and crew on the Lufthansa flight was hurt in the incident Tuesday evening, Lufthansa spokeswoman Jennifer Urbaniak said.
The other plane, a Continental Boeing 757, was empty and being towed to an overnight parking spot, said airline spokeswoman Mary Clark.
The left wing of the Lufthansa plane struck the right wing of the Continental plane, according to Alan Hicks, spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Federal Aviation Administration was assessing the damage and trying to determine how the incident could have occurred.
Federal officials also are investigating an incident Saturday at the airport in which a jet carrying more than 160 people landed on a taxiway instead of the runway.
Taxiways often have planes, vehicles or personnel on them. There were no injuries Saturday when the Continental flight from Orlando, Fla., landed in the wrong place. Continental said both pilots of that flight have been grounded while it investigates. The Newark airport is one three primary airports serving the New York City area.
