Looks like Alaska mgmnt. has figured out how to have their cake and eat it too......Word is that in late Sept/early Oct..we are going to furlough 125 fo's and downgrade about 100 captains.....Contract talks have stopped and they are going to move ahead with a third party to do 12 -14 airplanes worth of flying....as in not replacing the last MD's that are leaving....... Word is that it is going to be flown by a carrier that has EMB170/190 options and that they will be doing the lionshare of Alaska's Portland operation.......as well as most of the bay area ops out of SEA. Given that we actually are in better shape to weather the oil crisis than even SWA it is pure contract ploy but unlike in the past they are actually going to do it.....What a great place to work.......Cut off your head to spite your body........

Wow that sucks, I bet Republic is going to put those extra E170s to work for Alaska.

You don't have a scope section that prevents this?

Same plan for Horizon. Mgt. wants to cut 80 capts. and 200 FOs over the course of our "fleet transition".

I have a friend at Compass and there has been a lot of rumors of flying for the Eskimo running around there for several months.

Status Quo my A$$

SHUT IT DOWN. This type of management harrassment really needs to stop. The only thing we as pilots have for leverage is the work we do. If the music stops, poeple start to listen.

I saw the ALPA videos of the Alaska picketing. I was VERY impressed with the way you guys represented yourselves. It seems like you are ready to lay on the sword if you need to.

The Railway Labor Act requires both sides to maintain the status quo during negotiations. Alaska management going out and finding outsourced flying while in negotiations is DEFINITELY not what I would call the status quo.

Best of luck to you guys at Alaska. Just like everywhere else. It used to be a premier airline and it still can be. Labor really needs to stand their ground and withhold their services til they get the picture. No mediator is going to declare an impasse at this stage of the game and management knows that. Time to seek your own self-help.

There are always a ton of rumors regarding Alaska. Problem is that none of them ever come true.....

Looks like it's time to really start looking for another job and seek a different career path.

Or, maybe I'll just sell everything I have and move to Fiji and live in a grass hut.

All is says is that Alaska Airlines pilots will do all Alaska Airlines flying.

That can be twisted 100 different ways to management. Currently there is nothing that really qualifies as a "scope clause".

Probably as result of 35+ years of an all too trusting pilot group, and a ridiculously restrictive reliance on binding arbitration.

Is this before, or after Republic buys them?

Just kidding

I am a current CA at Compass living on the west coast and commuting a long way to work.
First off being a former Qx'er and having several friends at AS, I hope all of these "rumors" are untrue. Yes being closer to home would be great for me. But for that to happen at the expense of others I have worked with is not the way I want it to happen.

Secondly, the rumors of this happening at Compass have gone pretty silent since the merger announcement. I would be kinda shocked to see anything like this for us with the Delta side running the show. Maybe we will have more Salt Lake flying or something like that. Besides I most of us may be on the street again by the end of the year with this merger.

Finally, if the airgroup wants a 76 seat jet I see them trying to put the QX pilots in the position of continuing to go to an all 400 fleet or at the last minute wave the RJ 900's in their faces to be flown at current 700 rates.

I have nothing to back any of this up but management at the airgroup can get pretty brutal if they want to.

All in all I wish the best for all those involved at QX and AS

This would be a very good time for everyone to realize that the fates of both the Horizon and Alaska pilot groups are inextricably bound together. Might just as well hang up a FOR SALE sign on the rest of the flying if this is allowed to happen.
