I have recently been hired by SkyWest on the CRJ and will be starting groundschool soon. I think I will be in the Comfort Suites. I was wondering if any of you guys and Gals who have gone through the training have any words of wisdom. Anything that you wish you had brought with you or anything that you wish you had known before you arrived. I'm really excited and can't wait to start. Thanks in advance for all replies.

bring a car if you can. learn all your flows, EPLs, etc. ASAP.

just enjoy it. training is long, but they do a good job. go out and do things when you have time, don't just study. go hiking, go to Park City, etc.

good luck

Dont drink the kool aid. YOu are arriving at skywest at an important time in the crossroads of the company. If alpa passes, you would be the first class to have a legal representation.

Good luck and i hope that things go well. Remember to pace yourself for the training and dont get burnt out.

Anything I should make sure to bring that new hires consistently forget?...or what you wish you had brought with you to your training?

Just remember, PACKS ON, PROBES ON and you should be fine. ;)

I don't know when your class will start, but remember SLC will be cold soon. They have some of the best Instructors you can find. Look around in class and pair up with a cpt. upgrade, it will make your time in the sim better.

Earplugs..cause your roomy will probably snore!
Your own pillows for Comfort, the only thing that stinks in that hotel.
Appetite for hard boiled eggs, waffles, marginal juice and coffee every morning, cause if you are staying there, it is included.
Bring an I pod or Walkman so you can wind down a bit on the treadmill or walks DAILY.
Money for beer.
X ray goggles, cause if you go to one of the local adult entertainment dance clubs, everything interesting will be covered..plus they charge a one time club fee.(Don't ask me how I know)
Your own booze/beer.
Most beers served are Low alcohol.
A girlfriend, or lots of fantasy materials.
A great attitude.

Remember this, mostlikely people not as intelligent as you made it thru (ie-ME)

Bring a car. The shuttle to the training center is always packed and you might have to leave an hour early to get a spot on it. Having a computer will come in handy. They give you some CD-ROM's and there's some online training that needs to be done. They have computers at the training center you can use if you don't have one.
In ground school you'll be really concerned about the test, but you will also need to be learning the flows. Know your flows, callouts and profiles before you get to FTD. Sit down with your sim partner and practice going throught the checklists until comfortable. There aren't any more upgrades this year so your sim partner will be an FO also. If you're lucky you'll get one transitioning from the EMB-120. When I was a new hire my whole class was new guys...it made things harder but they have a really good training department and will make sure everyone makes it through. The most important thing to bring is a positive attitude. Good luck

Cash,
So you can buy a taxi over to the hotel where the F/As are staying, ya gotta be quick if you are gonna tap that stuff. Tell em you are a Captain, they won't know any different till its too late!
PBR

Ask Skynation the way to the Kool-aid dispenser.

Have your flows and FMS setup down before you show up for FTD. If you can have your flows down before you start class, your stress level will be much lower. If you are paired with another F.O. you will be required to know some of the Capt flows. This is the order that I would study the flows.

1.All F.O. flows and checklist responses
2.Engine start flow Capt.
3.Pre-taxi flow Capt.
4.Taxi checklist responses
5.Originating flow switch position(do not need to know how to perform test or checklist responses)

Sometimes you don't have a lot of time to study flows because you will be worried about passing your systems test. There might be only a couple of days between the end of class and the start of FTD. That's why it's best to have your flows down before you show up for class. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Welcome aboard.

If a retard like Skynation can pass, any drooling monkey can! This moron is a good example of what type of sense is actually required to work for an airline. Just see some of his previous posts if in doubt.
-RETARD!

Ahhhright...Now that I've done it... here's what I wish I had known and brought:
1. A lap top computer (a must)
2. A large Duffle bag to carrry the many binders they give ya...there's a lot.
3. If you can get ahold of the Pwr point training disc ahead of tme to study, it will help out imensely. There is so much info that if you have a basic knowledge going in to it, it will help out a lot.
4. Colored Tabs to Tab your QRH...get red yelow green and white...the kind you can write on.
5. If you are in the comfort suites you will save a lot of time and $$$ if you make your own food...bring some forks, spoons, knives, etc... The Candlewood has a kitchenette so no need for all that if you're staying there.
6. You will need your headset for Sim.
7. If you need health insurance make sure you take care of it before you show up for indoc and ground. SkyWest health benefits do not kick in for at least 3 to as much as 4 months from date of hire.
8. Your TIME will be the most important factor...if you have to do a bunch of crap that eats into your time the stress level goes up...so plan ahead.

Headset for the sim? WTF?
