A non-union carrier!

It's their way of thanking the pilots for not voting in ALPA. Bigger shiney airplanes for smaller paychecks.

TORONTO, Nov 30 (Reuters) - SkyWest Inc (SKYW.O: Quote, Profile, Research) placed a firm order with Bombardier Inc (BBDb.TO: Quote, Profile, Research) for 18 CRJ700 NextGen and four CRJ900 NextGen regional jets, the companies said on Friday.
The value of the order is about $773 million, they said in a statement. ($1=$1 Canadian) (Reporting by Jonathan Spicer)

This order for Inc. could go to either ASA or OO. I guess we'll see.

This is from the latest SkyWest newspaper,
While a manufacturer has not yet been selected for these aircraft ; we expect an announcement before the next edition of Headlines is produced. We anticipate the first delivery will be in February 2008, when SkyWest will acquire two UAX RJ aircraft SkyWest will then receive additional aircraft through March of 2010. All 22 aircraft will be operated by SkyWest.

How are they going to find crews to fly them? They like everyone else are running out of pilots.

Could it be that they are buying Eagle???? Muhhh.

So these are the planes we already knew about, nothing new?

This was a confirmation of the order previously announced. These airplanes take the place of an equal number of E-120s at SkyWest.
Actually they (the 18 CRJ 700's) replace 23 EMB's that were on a contract basis. 5 of those 23 Brasilia's will remain in the system in an "pro-rate" basis. When you add in the other 4 CRJ 900's for Delta, its a net gain of 4 aircraft for the system.

Well, I think the plan was to retire some EMBs while they are adding CRJs, so it's only a net gain of 4 airplanes. And I think if they need it, they will probably look to start releasing seat-locks for us EMB schmos. Makes sense. And most of those Brasilias will be coming out of LAX, so I could be one of those schmos! :)

I guess we know what those four "regional aircraft" will be now. I think the CRJ 900s was probably the best choice.

No seat lock releases. The hiring is into the jet at the moment. Too expensive to release the seat lock and retrain for the jet and also train for the bro. Don't worry though, the year will go by fast.

It's done all the time. It was done this past summer in Denver. There were quite a few EMB crews that were in it less then a year and then transitioned to the jet.

I know it was done in Denver. Because they closed Denver as an EMB base. And yes, they have done it before, but not this time.

I believe there are scheduled new hire EMB classes on 1/7 and 2/4.

I didn't say they are ONLY hiring into the jet, just that they are hiring into the jet so they don't need to release the seat lock. The 120s are not going anywhere too fast so no need to release the seat lock this time. Plus flying the EMB will be good for them

So these nextgen aircraft have the option of installing inflight entertainment...
Wonder if these new aircraft will have that option, and what that may mean to longer flights?
