All Immediate openings:
Composite Fabricators: Looking for people that like to build things with their hands and are good craftspeople. Must enjoy a fast-paced R&D environment and enjoy working in a team atmosphere. Entry-level through experienced persons needed.
Our Composite Fabricators learn several aspects of our prototyping manufacturing process. Foam tooling construction, composite tooling construction, manufacturing composite components from wet lay-up to pre-preg., trimming and drilling, and assembly to name some of the tasks that you can look forward to doing at Scaled as a Composite Fabricator.
Scaled has created its own in-house composite training course that allows us to bring novices from all kinds of backgrounds together to teach them composite manufacturing skills. The training is geared towards developing an expert prototype manufacturing workforce for our research projects and later for our space ships when they enter the production line.
Our shop fabrication employees are an integral part of our R&D team and enjoy the excitement surrounding flight tests and the achievement of milestones activities that happen right outside our doors here at the Mojave Spaceport.

Materials and Process Engineer: Seeking hands-on composite M & P engineer with a good understanding of materials selection and characterization, qualification testing, specification writing, and process development and troubleshooting. Should have a strong background in composite construction (wet lay-up, prepreg, etc), composite bonding and assembly, and tool construction/utilization. Pilot, homebuilding, and rapid prototyping experience a plus. DOD Secret Clearance a strong plus.

5-Axis CNC Operator: Set up, edit, and run 5-axis CNC Gantry Mill. Ability to read blue prints and sketches, inspect and verify part tolerances, start and observe CNC machine operation and adjust as required. Knowledge of Fanuc control and familiarity with Windows XP and DOS. This position will be for swing shift or mid-shift. Must be willing to work overtime as needed, including weekends. Previous experience with large 5-axis CNC gantry mills, a machining background, and active government clearance are a plus.
Our 5-axis CNC Gantry Mill is the heartbeat of our rapid prototyping operation. The majority of the time we find ourselves machining 10lb. to 15lb. urethane foam to create master or manufacturing tools. Other materials that we machine include Styrofoam, honeycomb core (Nomex, Kevlar, aluminum, etc.), composite material (carbon fiber, fiberglass, etc.), wood, aluminum, etc.

CATIA Draftsman: Seeking design engineer with strong background in generating 3D CAD models of composite structures, as well as mechanical systems. Catia V5 experience is required. DOD Secret Clearance a strong plus.

Technical Drawer/ Draftsman: Applicant needed for authoring technical build-to drawings and manuals for composite parts and assemblies. Job will consist of converting preliminary technical concepts into detailed production manufacturing instructions. Candidate should be able to communicate with engineers about technical concepts and hardware. Good pencil drawing and manual drafting skills, as well as good technical writing skills are required. Catia V5 experience is highly desired. DOD clearance is required. Engineering degree is not required.

Composites Manufacturing Engineer: Seeking hands-on manufacturing engineer with a good understanding of classical stress analysis techniques and production support experience. Applicant will be helping transition prototype structures to low-rate production. Problem solving and good communication skills are required. Hands-on experience with composites part fab and assembly processes required. DOD Secret Clearance is a strong plus.

Composites Design Engineer: Seeking hands-on engineers with a good understanding of classical stress analysis techniques and the ability to take designs from concept to completion. Applicants should have a thorough understanding of these principals as they relate to composite part and composite assembly design and fabrication. Hands-on experience with composite parts fabrication is a requirement. FEA is a plus. DOD Secret Clearance is a strong plus. Pilot, homebuilding and rapid prototyping experience a plus.

Avionics Engineer: Seeking engineer with experience developing both avionics hardware and software for production. Applicant should be experienced working in multi-threaded/ embedded software/real-time environments. Should also be versed in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++ or Java. Experience with modern control theory (LQR, Dynamic Inversion, etc) is desired. OpenGL computer graphics experience is desired.

Makes me wish I had some engineering skills. Man, I'd love to work for Burt Rutan! That guy has forgotten more about aviation then I'll ever know.
