Any good places to stay in San Diego near the zoo?

Any good places to stay in San Diego near the zoo?

Hotwire.com or priceline and pick anything downtown/gaslamp or even harbor island, its 2 miles away. Nothing right on or within walking distance of balboa park or zoo.

Everything's pretty close to the everything else in SD.

My favorite hotel is the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island, but it's very expensive.

My second favorite is Humphrey's Half Moon Bay Inn on Shelter Island.

It's not a Ritz Carlton, but it's pretty nice...great location, reasonably priced for what you get, summer concerts (good acts too).

I always stay on Coronado Island, but not at the Hotel Del (too much $$$). The Best Western on Orange Ave is nice, and you can get room for about $140. That's the military rate, but I'll bet they'll match it if you're not military. For about $100, there's a place called the Coronado Inn. Not fancy, but nice, and also on Orange Ave. Also, the Glorietta Inn is across the street from the Hotel Del. I've never stayed there, but it looks real nice, and offers a military rate.
