Purely rumor....
Sat on an Airways Jumpseat the other day with a ALPA Rep, He said that GE Capital would no longer finance MDA's 170 order. GE Cap would only allow for 9 Airplanes. Apparently they got burned on the last bankrupcy. He went on to said that this was the reason the Airways ALPA guys voted on the Scope Relief.
"The scope clause lets Express partners and wholly owned affiliates at US Airways fly up to 465 regional jets. At the end of December, those carriers flew 113 regional jets. MidAtlantic Airlines, which recently launched operations with the Embraer 170, plans to fly 39 by yearend. Tentative CRJ fleet plans for wholly owned carriers are 49 50-seat CRJ-200s and 20 CRJ-700s.
Currently, the RJ growth is tied to rehiring furloughed mainline pilots under the Jets for Jobs agreement. Half of new RJ flying must be awarded to furloughed US Airways pilots at Express partners. Mesa, Trans States and Chautauqua participate in the Jets for Jobs agreement. Furloughed pilots are slated to fly all the -170s at MidAtlantic.
Financiers are also interested in the scope discussions between US Airways pilots and management. Union leaders told members a senior official from GECAS held a conference call with the chairmen of the negotiating committee asking about the progress in the scope discussions.
Under aircraft financing deals reached with air-framers and GECAS, US Airways must maintain a “B-” rating from Standard and Poor’s or a “B3” by Moody’s Investor Service to ensure that RJ financing remains intact"
He told me that Republic was looking to purchase MDA and the remaining 170's on order. Further fuel to the fire, spoke to an guy on his IOE for the 170's, he's also heard the same rumor floating around.........Anyone else hear anything?????
