I was just watching a clip on Discovery Channel. Not sure what the show was called, but it featured a lot of footage from the USS George Washington. The show showed footage of an F-18 landing on the carrier, catching a wire, the wire snapping and the plane going off the end of the carrier with the pilot ejecting. The amazing part of the footage was the slow motion of the cable wipping around the deck. I think a purple shirt jumped over the wipping cable three times, and unfortunately a yellow and red shirt were shown getting hit by the cable. I believe the clip was dated 9/11/2003. The show did not say what the outcome was for the people involved. Does anyone know what actually happened? Thanks. It was amazing footage to see.

I remember hearing about what you're talking about. Can't remember specifically the injuries but they were serious to say the least IIRC. Google the Naval Safety Center, and you should be able to find information about it.
