Anyone out there have a policy or procedure for carry on portable O2 bottles? Storage for takeoff/landing? Some in the dept seem to thing there is a reg for this. Cant fing anything? Thanks for the mature responses.
 
Our policy (And most of the other companies that i've worked for) is that we are unable to carry O2 bottles. To be able to carry them you must have a HAZMAT program in place. Additionally, you must be able to abide by all maintenance schedules for any HAZMAT you may carry (Company Compliance). That being said, both 91 and pt135 without HAZMAT authorization may allow oxygen "generators" to be carried in lieu of the bottles. All the generators do is simply supply air to the individual, not 100% O2. Hope that helps-

Just to transport the bottles (Hazmat?)..or as in someone needs an oxygen bottle while on the plane? We had someone ask once and offered to arrange an air ambulance.

Does the aircraft have a first aid O2 port in back for pax?
 
Specifically for the 121 & 135 guys, there are some pretty stringent requirements including the inspection and certification of the bottles and a quality control program, so most simply do not allow "private" bottles. We are 91 but usually try to comply with the most conservative guidance. We carry a "walk around" bottle that we can plug our eros masks into and have a therapeutic mask we can use with it in addition to the first aid port from the aircraft O2 system.

The oxygen concentraters may be a good solution.

Like G200, if someone wants to travel and NEEDs supplemental O2, we try to dissuade them from flying with us.

Of course it's allowed. Our GOM states that portable O2 must be labeled properly, secured, good condition, correct pressure, must notify PIC, no smoking within 10 feet, only those trained to disconnect/connect the fittings may do so, bottle cannot restrict access to any aisle or exit,

I am pretty sure we just cut and pasted from the regs.
 
Maybe if your 91 its exempted. It isnt with us. We primarily fly 135 and occationally fly 91. Oxygen is considered HAZMAT. Its a Class 2.2 Non flammable gas. However dependant on your company OpSpec's and whether or not you are operating Pt 135 will determine what action must be taken to deem the flight satisfactory.

I stand corrected. If your EVP or DO is good with the bare bones needed to carry it, you should be able to. I was referring to the fact most certificate holder's insurance providers arent going to allow it. As MaxTouque stated, no 135 department is going to leave the decision making of these matters to us lowly pilots. Guess it depends on who calls the shots inside your dept.
