Question on VR

I was wondering...

When applying for the TAR/ reserves to fly C-9s / C130s, it would make sense that they would look at the whole individual/fitreps, etc , But would it matter at all what type of aircraft / mission you flew in the Navy? i.e. whether you flew helos or fixed wing props? P3s, E2s, or C2s?

FTS (TAR) and SELRES are 2 different animals. The selection for SELRES is mandated through instuction to select the most junior qualified. So an 0-3 from P3's E2's etc. with good FITREPS will have a leg up on an 0-4 helo driver. The FTS board is a little harder to figure out. The Navy will do some strange things at times. Generally, the more junior you are the better.
 
Last year VR-64 switched from P-3s to C-130T, hence the designation change from VP-64 to VR-64.

When I applied to VR-55, I was surprised that they were interested in a jet guy. I thought they would be a prop-mafia. I was surprised at how few former P-3 types we have. VR-64 transitioned most of their squadron, so they will be P-3 weighted for a number of years, but I doubt that would affect their hiring.

Like has been said, junior most qualified wins.
