Funny thing is USA Jet is paying for the degree with our tuition reimbursement program. He is right that you can get hired and make a good living without a college degree, and yes you can make 100k a year doing so. But, there is going to be a catch, like you'll have to live on a pager. Maybe I am kidding myself, but I think I can do alot better than 100k a year and have a schedule at some point before I die. I'm on pace to have the 1000 PIC Jet and a degree by 28. My next job, when and if I decide to start looking, may not even require a degree. But one thing is for sure, I enjoy learning more now than before, and I don't want to not be qualified for that "dream job" when I find it.

Somehow, I see this turning into a peak oil discussion. Which will inevitably turn into a discussion on MagLev.

U have to say, when I started with "UVU" I was very happy. But some of these online courses are set up so poorly that it really pisses me off. The Fin Aid depart is also inefficient. The school seems to have poor customer service the second you step out of the aviation classes.

FWIW...I have been finishing up at ERAU. I have spent a fortune (relative to a former regional guy with a stay at home mom/wife and two kids). I live in the Beehive state and looked very hard at transferring. I went through a full assesment and placement testing (ridiculous for a mid semester college junior at the time). The per credit hour cost is substantially cheaper than ERAU, hence the draw.

In the end, I chose to stick it out with ERAU.

The factors, when put to paper, all pointed to sticking it out with Riddle.

1. Cost: They are going to get the money out of you one way or the other. UVSC has transfer fees. When you start adding up the cost of transferring 90 units, you begin to reach a point of diminishing return relative to the per unit tuition.

2. Convenience and reliability. Say what you like but ERAU is hands down the best there is at distance learning. The have been doing it forever and doing it for the military has allowed them to build a distance learning infrastructure and support system that is top notch. While annecdotal I have many aquaintences that have had issues with DL support at UVSC over the years.

3. Financial Aid department is absolutely top notch and will help with whatever FA needs you may have.

4. Reputation. A degree is a degree. Yes, no, maybe so. Perception is reality and the degree from ERAU leaves no questions asked. You did the work, you earned the degree, end of story. A recruiter, a chief pilot, an HR type may have heard of UVSC and know they have a good reputation which they do. Then again they may see Utah Valley State College and think it is up there with Thomas Edison or Bon Crandall and Leo Mullin's Degree Academy that gave credits for the summer you spent taking bong hits and delivering pizzas for MGMT 350 credit. You just never know.

All that said, UVSC is a good option and I know of many satisfied grads. I know you can't go wrong with Riddle. It will cost money, but any University providing a good education will. It will take time. I won't lie. You WILL DO the work and it will take effort. With effort and commitment you will get a degree from a good school. When it is all said and done, that is point of college in the first place. You came, you did the work, you succeeded and made the sacrifice to see it through.

Sounds just like University of Phoenix. I swear they are trying to make the "million monkeys at a million typewriters" theory into a business model.
