There may not be enough rum in the caribbean!

Or tea in China, according to this...

"...the carrier will suspend cargo service to Bangkok, Singapore and Guangzhou effective July 1 and Taipei effective Aug. 1."

But at least they're on the same page with their merger "partner":

"Referring to the mammoth charge it recorded (3.1 BILLION), Northwest said it must measure the value of goodwill annually, "or whenever significant events that could be indicators of a change in value have occurred." Due to the recent stock price decline, the merger and other industry trends, the company has "determined that an impairment to goodwill is required.""

Has anyone ever heard of this accounting "practice"? I sure haven't.

Yes. It's called "collusion". Delta did the same thing. They're reporting obscene losses to garner sympathy for the merger among employees and the public.

Not much of a numbers guy and/or familiar with the complexities of accounting, but could these losses that both Delta and NWA released be purposefully over inflated? Seems to me that the worse off these two carriers look on paper, the more apt the DOJ will be to approve a merger of the two. Just a complete guess here on my part.

Ya Think?

Doesn't this belong in the "Delta" forum?

I am not sure if it is collusion since it is very apparent to us what they are doing. I would say they have the same accountant. It probably has something to do with the BK agreement. Both lost far less combined than UAUA did all by themselves. Imagine what the loss for UAUA would have been using the same accounting techniques.:erm:
