I found this on another thread - thanks Avrodriver. I had no idea that the Lansing-IAD route would be soooooo popular. Read the blurb below:

MINNEAPOLIS, June 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC - News) today announced that it is expanding service at Lansing, Mich., with new non-stop jet service to Washington's Dulles International Airport. Four weekday flights and three flights on Saturdays and Sundays will be offered beginning July 15.

I never thought I would say this but GO NORTHWEST!!!!

Funny, looks like the "major" carriers have decided to go all in to snuff out IA before they're even off the ground. We wouldn't want these "regional" airlines deciding to have a go at it on their own. No they must be our little biatches and serve the master. Good luck to all those at Indy Air. No one is going to make it easy on you.

It's nothing new or funny. The majors have always gone out of their way to snuff out startups.

...and then beg for money from the government because they are going broke.

The sad part is that Northwest will be using one of their "indentured servants" in the effort to squash Independence and the MSA or PCL pilots will be pitted against their bretheren and unable to do anything about it. The "masters" don't want to free the slaves.

Every "regional" pilot should be rooting for the success of their brothers at Independence Air. They deserve to be free of the predators.

Good luck IA.

It's amazing how much and how far whipsawing pilot groups goes. It almost seems that the only way to get some leverage against this, is for there to be a separate pilot's union for the regionals. I don't know how feasable that would be, but considering how every major has at least two dogs in the race and Mesa to come along and contract your flying if you strike as well...it would seem as long as they can play games with their pinnacle against mesaba and asa against comair games, there will never be an end to it.

Will you remind me again when Mesa or there pilots crossed a picket line or took your flying during a strike? Remember, Mesa would be in the same regional union your considering. -Bean

Correct, Mesa never crossed a picket line or gained another contract during a strike. They did cause sh!tty contracts at CHQ and Mesaba, concessions at Wiskey and ACA (and the resultant creation of Indy Air), a 2 year extension to a horrible contract at Trans States, and SKYW pilots agreeing to fly 90 seat jets for 50 seat wages. Did I forget anything?

That pretty much summarizes the major points.

However, the original 87 self-serving pr!cks that crossed over to Freedom are the major culprits (more so than the rank and file Mesa pilot anyway).

I believe that clause only pertains to the 50-seaters. As for the 44-seat jets, anything goes. Just like the Milwaukee flying that is just about to ramp up.

Great... the devil is in the details.

Can anyone say "whipsaw"? I think this is going to be very bad for NWA and all the Airlinkers. Just one more way of muddying the water when it's already pretty darn dark.

This is going to be a hell of a year for the disfunctional Northwest family.

EDIT: Oops... I didn't know "d*a*m*n" was a bad word. Sorry.

It looks like everyone will give Indy Air a little pressure right off the bat. The Lansing--IAD routed for NW Airlink is a little surprising, though....?

Bye Bye--General Lee
