Any Mesa-ites out there know what happend to the ladies involved in the hard landing incident in Roanoke back in Oct 01?

Just curious if they are still employed.

Nope, I don't work for MESA, PSA as a matter of fact. I know, not much diff. I'm just tired of MESA bashing and Monday morning quarterbacks.

haha, the chick stalled the airplane, struck the tail, and then actively tried to cover it up. no quarterbacking needed, she was a dumba$$.

the CA was fired and is employed at walmart.
the FO just upgraded to CA in the jungle jet.

I like this part: "The captain was asked why she closed the throttles prior to touchdown, as the airplane was slow on the approach. She reported that she closed the throttles because it was company procedure to close the throttles at 50 feet."

I've flown with a few like that myself, 95% book-smart and 5% feel for an airplane.
 
And ya gotta wonder......

how she got through training! It was the old "Instructor with a hard on" deal. She was doing poorly and resorted to boinking the instructor (later fired for domestic abuse) to get extra sims late at night etc. Later called the guys wife to fill her in on the details. Hormone boy also was her acting FO on her type ride and probably covered up an error or two. The DE was impressed by her ample bosom, I am sure. This whole incident was a collection of smaller mistakes not caught in time. The Captain was widely disliked for her abrasiveness, she also bragged that she upgrade from the 1900 as an FO, like we were supposed to be impressed as opposed to shocked. Everyone knew she was an accident waiting to happen...and it did. The best part of the story is that she tried to sue Mesa for improper training and a few other things. FO was a good gal, but a bit passive when matched up with the peroxide know-it-all. She did pass away from cancer while the investigation was ongoing, Mesa wouldn't pay her death benefit...no suprise there, JO needed another motorcycle.....
 
As clarification, the FO who passed away from breast cancer was the one who did the walkaround (before sunrise, on a not so well lit ramp, I've been told) on the following morning. She was not the one involved in the accident. That FO has recently upgraded to ERJ Capt.

I recall a Shuttle landing much like that. right on the tail. BUT the crew was one of those 200% compliant junkies and we were all scratching our heads wondering what went wrong~~~~~
Well......... ground crew in LEX failed ( big surprise here) to log on the weight manifest X amount of international bags. All were logged as domestic.

And on a SAAB................can you imagine?????
 
So you're blaming the crew for a tailstrike when the airplane was loaded drastically out of limits on account of the ground crew improperly listing the bag weights on the manifest?

Why the head-scratching? Sounds pretty obvious.
 
If the f/O passed, God rest her soul, As for Mrs.Y..(so tempted to put her name down).. She gives women pilots a bad name, like so many ambulance chasing attorneys give lawyers a bad name. May she spend eternity in pergatory with the words " GO AROUND ISN"T an OPTION" constantly going through her head.

Incompetence is no excuse....Please Please Please let this thread DIE

Ya know blzr, you sound like such a young and naive guy!!! It almost sounds like you're out for blood or something!!!!

I blame the ground weenies. They knew better and were being complacent..... they didn't think what COULD OF HAPPENED.

This FO and Capt were and still in my book awesome folks. I accredit them to quick thinking and saving a ac full of folks . They were calm , cool. and really knew how to handle the entire situation...... which included.......... calming a full ac.

I had one Capt that grounded 3 ac in day............ he must of had a microscope because this guy could find a needle in the haystack.. and guess what???? GOOD FOR HIM..... he always thought safety first.

I can't think of any Shuttle Pilot that didn't..... IMHO
 
Go-around not an option????

The Captain stated that a go around was not an option due to the hills nor was a rejected landing an option. So, if another aircraft rolls onto the runway when you're on short final I guess you just crash into it huh???

I don't know of any approach that is legal to shoot with a go around not an option......................except 1...........the Space Shuttle.

Seriously, how do you justify qualifying a Captain who isn't even aware of her emergency escape options??

This one is a shame. Shes lucky the next crew to fly it didn't crash due to the damage.
 
What????? Gee, what a surprise a female pipes in and defends this incompetence.

They stalled and crashed the airplane at the advertised stall speed for the weight they were at. With Vref at 124 and their speed at 102 (stall speed), flying 22 knots below Vref isnt 'quick thinking', its not thinking. The best part of this is that the FO called her 5 knots slow then 10 knots slow and since the Captain wasn't responding just gave up and remained silent as the aircraft slowed to stall. LOL. I guess at 22 knots slow the call should have been "TAILSTRIKE". Unreal.
