Heard on the news this morning that word on the street is that Delta and United are in talks. The story goes that United would be the name of the carrier and Chicago would be the home base.

Thoughts about how that would all shake out?

I think you're about a day late for this discussion...;)

Don't know if it'll be Delta/United but mergers and consolidation IS going to happen. Better to be out front in the race than to be left without a dance partner or even left dancing with "the ugly fat guy/girl"

I think Continental is very interested in UAL, and has more capital and resources to seal the deal.

Mergers are over-rated. Unless you have the perfect blend of complimentary route structures and corporate cultures, you will be hard pressed to have a successful merger. United and Delta are awfully big and their domestic routes overlap big-time. Yeah, they both have a lot to gain on the international routes, but why not save the grief of merger and code share on those routes instead?
