Guys,

We are working on getting an approved MEL for our BE-30. For those of you who use one, did you pay to have one done, or did you construct it yourself and then get it approved? If you paid for it, who did you use and how much was it. If you did it yourself, how much of a pain was it and would you do it again? I have a copy of a master MEL for the plane. I think I just have to add our extra componets to it and write the maintenance procedures. But I'm sure there is a little more to it.

Thanks for the advice.

You didn't say if you're 91 or 135. Many FSDOs will issue a letter to 91 operators allowing them to use the MMEL as their MEL. So you really do not have to write anything.

As for writing one. I have used company written ones and ones written by outside companies. These outside companies tend to guarentee approval. But it seems that they do it by giving a lot away to the FAA in the process. ANd then they become quite restrictive. Writing it yourself allows you to tailor made this document to your operation.

Good luck

We currently operate a 350 and are in the final stages of getting our MEL approved. We used a company out of Texas called Aeroflight Publications and the cost was around $800. There is also an annual renewal fee of $250 for all updates and changes. They have all the MEL training, maintenance etc. sections included when they send it to you. We are RVSM approved (for whatever reason I don't know) and they have a section written for those specific procedures. We have been very pleased with them and they are always willing to help us out.

We are Part 91 only. That being said, I thought that since the plane was certified under both Part 23 and 25, and something breaks, without an approved MEL for that specific airplane the airplane is not legal to fly. Any thoughts?
