I have searched the threads and haven't seen much posted recently...anyone been to Managua recently? Operational experience, places to stay, other than the obivious security issues mentioned on many website, what should I know?

Thanks in advance!

Went there last year. Did not RON however. Handler and ATC very professional. All radar just like USA.

been awhile....5+ years.....I remember a huge ramp area and excellent runway (one only?). Gringo friendly handlers. I think the hotel is Marriott or Intercontinente don't remember

dont walk around out on the street at night, no Rolex, dont take your bibles on your yacht and float thru Somalia Pirate zone, etc common sense stuff.

I believe the place across from the mall is the intercontinental. I went to venture out one day and made it about a half a block before a ran back with my tail between my legs. I did, however, catch a cab to the local volcano which was interesting and "safe".

well how did the trip go

The trip went well...everything everyone had to say was spot on. ATC/Tower and the airport were like anyother Central American country. The controllers spoke english well, runway was in good condition, considering the machine gun bunkers down the south side of the runway! The handlers did a fine job. We did stay at the Hilton. We do love our Hilton points. Free internet, good food and can't complain about the hotel at all. We did meet up with a local pilot who flies a CL30 down there that we have been to training with. He took us up to Lake Nicaragua, went to a ride in his boat and checked out the sites. All and all no complaints at all! Now off to El Salvador...we are getting around the region that's for sure!

roger that. San Salvador little more dangerous...all the MS-13 gang bangers get dumped there via JPATS....just be heads up walking around

later
