Any advice for a FedEx guy jumpseating to Krakow Poland? Expedia says United flies Chicago to there direct, any issues with Non-revving? Anybody know if we have privileges on British Airways or KLM? Thanks in advance.

I doubt United flies there direct. I've been there a couple of times and it's not a very big airport. If you can't get a jump seat all the way over you could jump seat to Stansted and fly Ryanair to KRK. I do believe there are 2 daily flights STN-KRK.

What you saw was a UA codeshare flight with LOT Airlines. UAL doesn't go to Poland. My suggestion is to jumpseat to any major European city (LGW, MUC, CDG, ZRH, WAW) and then pay for an ID90 or a ZED fare to get to KRK.

Thanks for the info.

United says they have a flight 4778 leaving ORD for KRK non-stop on 25 June operated by LOT airlines. Can I jumpseat on that? Is it a United crew or a LOT crew? It is on a 767-300.

Thanks for answering a few questions from soneone new to the industry. Probably won't go if the plans get too exotic.

It's operated by LOT, so you can't jumpseat. Whenever you see flight numbers higher than 2999 on almost any airline, chances are it is not operated by that airline.

I´ve never jumped on United, but a buddy of mine did (he was Comair) to Hong Kong; he said it was easy and great.

If you can get to Warsaw, taking the train to Krakow is easy, and cheap.

That being said, MAKE SURE you take a day off and go visit Auschwitz and Bergendau (10 minute walk from the first). It´s my personal belief that everyone should visit those places- there´s a pond at Bergendau where they used to dump the cremated ashes- it´s still grey to this day.

That being said, Krakow is a beautiful city- the only major eastern European city left relatively untouched during WWII. I´d go back in a heartbeat, given the chance!

Ah, yes, God's crulest joke- Polish women, some of the hottest on the plantet. Polish MEN* on the otherhand... butt a$$ ugly!

*OK, the caveat- if they were raised here in the States, then usually fairly attractive... I think it has something to do with the diet, but anyway...

Yes, the polish girls are AMAZINGLY attactive (and you don't have to go to Poland- Chicago will do just about any day) and if I wasn't marrying a Brazillian tomorrow, I'd be gunning for a Polish girl... never knew what the term "legs like a gazelle" meant until I went to Sopot, on the Baltic coast... If you happen to speak any Polish, you shouldn't have too much trouble over there.

Lord knows I sure didn't!

Oh yeah, FYI- the best Bloody Mary I had in ALL of eastern Europe was in Krakow- not just Vodka and Ketchup, like everywhere else...

Have a great time, and make sure you check out the castle, and Smok, the dragon!

If you've got some extra time, a train ride to the North will be amazing- check ut the castle at Malbork, about an hour SE from Gdansk- the largest all brick castle in the world, built by the Knights Templar. Sopot is BEAUTIFUL, as is the small fishing village of Hel, across the bay. They've got this amazing eel called vengosh (phonetic); the fat of the vengosh binds amazingly well with vodka- be ready to drink lots of it! (tastes like smoked salmon, BTW)

Oh yeah- I'm PRETTY SURE, but not POSITIVE (it's been a few years) that United flies direct to Warsaw- back during the cold war, they flew something like twice a week or so into Warsaw out of Chicago (next to Warsaw, Chicago has the most Poles in the world). If I remember correctly, it wasn't specifically legal (i.e., sanctioned) by Uncle Sam, but it was done anyway. So I'd bet that they're still doing it today.

Euro Travel Tip

Also check out europebyair.com. It offers $99.00 USD legs between European city pairs. With taxes included, my legs have averaged between $100-$150 US. This is a nice positive space backup to smaller European airports that don't get very many flights or destinations that are super full for the World Cup. You can switch the tickets for any city pairs in the system, so they are flexible for non-reving.

What is it about Poland ... something in the water?

When I lived in Germany in the late 80s, Polish women had a reputation as being among the most beautiful women in the world. My married landlord was crazy about Polish chicks. Having dated a couple Pole Princesses (not THAT kind of pole) back then, and having met their sisters and cousins, I believe it to be true. Olive skin and big doe eyes ... some are surprisingly natural blondes, too.

Italian women run a very close second, though.

Weird. But very cool. :pimp:
