If you are going by yourself try ATA. Take the 757 out of LAS or PHX. Much nicer jumpseats. The 737 can be a real pain in the butt after 5 hours. (yes, pun intended.)

Try hotwire or priceline and bid a crazy low price from any of the step-off cities for the dates you want. If you get it, JS to that city. Probably easier than trying for a JS all the way to HNL during the holidays.

I've done something similar before, and if you are willing to be flexible (hey, better to JS in the contiguous 48 to a selection of step-off cities) you have a lot of options. Of course, crew-scheduling may differ with you at the last minute -- just don't answer the phone! :)

i lived on maui for a year and jumped home to phx on ata innumerable times- even the weeks of thanksgiving and Christmas... there are many possibilitys to get to the islands and ive never ridden the actual jump- always room (for one) remember there are a ton of inter-island flights so if you can get to one of the other islands that can work also

Pardon my ignorance but who are "EV"

I would recommend Fed Ex if you're alone. If you are traveling with a companion, good luck. I've jumpseated twice on Fed Ex and they are a top notch organization. Crews go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, especially if it's your first time. I didn't jumpseat to HNL, I went from ATL-MEM-SLC, but couldn't say enough good things about them. The jumpseat number is listed at www.airlinepilotcentral.com. Click on Cargo then Fed Ex and call them up. You have to give them all your airline info, and then you're good to go. Once you list on the jumpseat, it's yours. Nobody can bump you, not even their own pilots. So if you're not gonna show up, make sure you call and cancel. Have fun, wish I was going to HNL for the Holidays!!

If you're in CASS, it won't be a problem. Just remember many of the west coast carriers to HNL also have flights to LIH OGG and KOA.

pardon me also, but where is PHIK? I have flown interisland for 6 yrs, I'd would like to go there to check it out.

Hickam AFB.

As far as getting to Hawaii... if you're in CASS and you're going alone, easy. From SFO or LAX, you have flights almost every hour to Hawaii...

I second Fedex....never took that long of a ride but it would be the best way to go.

EV is in fact meant to be Evergreen. However, our airline code is actually EZ. We are CASS approved but depending on what is onboard we can't always take JS'ers.
