I am a new hire and have a couple of questions...I come from corporate to the airline business and am trying to learn the ins and outs of jumpseating.

I will be completing training soon and will be commuting to work. I have been using expedia and passrider.com to research flight availability. First of all when I click on available seats on expedia, travelocity, or orbitz does it just show the seats available that particular website has to offer? Do these websites simply pre purchase seats ahead of time then sell them for different rates? Are they very accurate? Which site is the best? If you have any tips to share please do so.

Thanks

Also does anyone jumpseat with UPS or FedEx much?

Passrider used to have a list of every airlines reservation phone number. I can't find it on the website anymore, they may have taken it off when they started selling their "ultimate travel guide". Anyway, I always carried a copy of it along with a printout of available flights with me. You can call any particular airlines reservations agent for loads, and some will even let you list as a jumpseater. Someone else may be able to provide you with a link to a list of phone numbers.

Here is a cutout from passrider. the three last flights are at the same time in the same aircraft. doesn't this mean that these flights are actually one flight. if this is the case. Who is operating the flight?

You need to click on the link......anything under the "Flight Numbers" category after you query your TO/FROM. That will show you who is actually operating the flight...with the appropriate airline code.

Take that information and call the airlines listing #'s....you'll be well prepared to discuss seat availability with the airline agents.

Send me a pm if you want numbers for specific airlines....

Peace,

Drew Blows....whats up?

In most cases especially for the major airlines, the carrier showing a 2 or 3 digit flight number will be the one operating the flight, 4 digit flight numbers would then be a code share.
The second set of numbers indicates that it is a connecting flight, and most regionals affiliated with a major will use a 4 digit flight number for flight identicfication.
