Haven't been to JFK in years, usually we go to HPN. Are there any gotchas you could share from those who operate out of there regularly. Thanks

Watch out for taxiing A-380s. They will run you right over. And taxi slow...ground loves when you do that. Ask for a progressive taxi. They really love that.

Actually, I think all the Corporate stuff is near 13R. Its probably not bad getting in and out depending on the time of day. They keep the traffic moving pretty well unless you happen to try and leave between 7-9pm when all the International stuff is leaving.

It should be much better than it used to be now that Sheltair is taking over the FBO services. Be sure to request runway 31L or 13R, if available. Will make it much easier on you.

The Port Authority is not running it anymore? That has to be a great improvement. I never really had any problems getting fuel there before, I do know of folks that have, guess I was just lucky.

Also, with Sheltair do you have park at a remote area on RONs, or can you stay on the GA ramp? The remote parking was aways a pain in the buttocks. It's bad enough having to remote park flying internationally, but having to do at JFK is just a pain.

How about ice and potable water? Or is that still the old way?

No gotchas that I can think of. If you come in in a recip and need fuel, call in advance. We took a twin in there once (usually it's the jets) and they had 13 gallons left to give us and they had no idea how long it had been in the truck. Plus it took almost an hour to deliver. I was there about a month ago and sheltair wasn't there yet. I am sure things are better if they are there.

No gotchas as others have said. Just call ahead for fuel, and don't piss off the ground controllers!!

What the heck, since Pilotgolfer and jman90 are setting you up to get shot down by JFK TWR, why not do some pattern work while your there...

Call ahead, as stated earlier. Now that SheltAir is there they have some nice chairs and sofa, coffee and pastries. No tv as of last week. Still a pain in the ass getting fuel and paying for it. Pay close attention to taxi instructions, there are several ways of getting there. Oh yeah, and if you have a APU, stay in the plane. Getting in and out of the FBO is hard when they only have 3 people working the entire ramp. Have fun!

Don't forget to ask if today is bring your kid to work day...and then ask him to slowly repeat your taxi instructions. Then for good measure, ask them what number you are in line for departure because you're really tight on fuel.

The controllers there are very good and they actually have a sense of humor if you catch them on a good day. Enjoy your trip...it will be a non-event.
