Should the Pilots of the GLA pool search for another Regional; or continue to CFI it up till a future class date...

Not sure what would be best for my career???

Mooser

Hold out for Lakes??? Negative...

Keep searching, if Lakes happens, great. If not mabye you'll find something better.

Just my .02...

If you could take my advice as a current laker, I would take it as a blessing and stay away from this place, you will be much happier somewhere else!!!No matter what company it is!!

how much TT and multi do you have? COEX and Eagle are hiring significantly.....I know there are more hiring too....nothing wrong with Lakes but you could get in somewhere that will pay you a LITTLE better sooner maybe...it all depends on your times and what you're looking for. do you want to live out in the rockies? or are you willing to move, etc? definitely keep looking.....you never know what could be out there..

I meet those mins but...what is better for a new airline pilot???

Quick upgrade (CA around a year or less) then lot's of PIC Turbine time or

FO for 8 years but SIC Turbojet instead of TurboProp PIC???

Which one will get me to the majors quicker (assuming they are hiring)

Thanks

Mooser

Don't worry about the majors just yet, young one. Worry about distancing yourself from that little boo-boo that Eagle didn't like. Coex aint gonna like it either, so I suggest the likes of Colgan, Commutair, Mesa, or maybe Cape Air in a 402 if you have enough hours to get your ATP. In your situation your only option might be to CFI or 135 it until Lakes brings you back. Check out the places in Vegas, they need pilots bad.

Sorry man, there are no shortcuts.

You pretty much just answered your own question. Of course, majors are not hiring, Lakes ain't the greatest place to work, and alot of people are stuck there playing the waiting game. I have yet to find a crystal ball, so it's a gamble either way, however I wouldn't be too worried about the majors hiring anytime soon.

Well, what would SWA, FEDEX, JetBlue or AirTrans want???

Mooser

Mooser, calm down. Do you own a chihuahua or something? I think it's rubbing off.

I don't know dude, it's luck of the draw, some people have been leaving for SWA and Airtran. My advice: Chill out man; whatever happens, happens. Your stressing too hard.

I would do what you think is best for you and/or your family. As far as what kind of time will compete the best well... Different carriers want different things. It has been my personal experience that it's a "who you know" game more that a "numbers" game. Yeah, all the airlines have minimums but they are usually pretty low. So if you have the times shoot for the stars. Network like mad friend. A lot of others on this board don't count places like AWA or JetBlue or even SWA as majors. Not sure why. I guess its a who will pay the most that determines whether or not you are a major in their eyes. Anyway I hope you figure it out and find a lot of success...

"A bird in hand is worth two in the bush."

This quaint little saying has guided me in many such decisions throughout my life. Here's another one:

"Good things come to those who wait."

But that doesn't mean you can't be looking for other gainful employment while you wait for Lakes to call. You might be pleasantly surprised and get a better job. Worst case scenario you're already in the pool at Lakes.

Seriously, Mooser -- I can relate to what you're going through, as I was furloughed for just under a year after September 11. You'll be fine. But you need to lay off the caffeine for a while. Perhaps try yoga? :)

I am affraid to try YOGA; I heard it was really dangerous??? Oh does anyone have any suggestions for caffine withdrawl???

I would defintely look for another job at the regionals, small cargo, etc.. Lakes is nothing you want to hang around for. You shouldn't have a problem getting an interview with a little 1900 time under your belt.

Good Luck
