Hey guys,
I know that theres a garmin simulator available for download online since i've used it before. I got checked out in a 172SP a few months back and have flown it a few times VFR before. I know how to get the Bendix king GPS in the SP to go from point A to point B direct, but past that, the procedures are a little bit different than in the garmin 430. Does Garmin have a simulator for download so that i can practice setting up approaches and stars?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks!

Yep, that's what i got my private and instrument in.

BTW, my bad. I meant to ask about the bendix king simulator (smacks forehead), the one that's usually in the 172 SP. This one has 2 screens. The small screen where you input the data and it's also a smaller lcd screen, then there's a huge screen above it that displays all the data.

Are you referring to the MFD in the 172SP's? I'd be interested in that simulator myself. The base GPS operates so closely to the Garmin 430, I just need to learn the MFD better.

I did my instrument and spin training in it. Oh, the memories....

haha. Well... it's a good VFR training aircraft since it doesn't burn much fuel. however, i didn't like it for IFR training. It climbed way to slow and it was a slow aircraft. Flying in and out of the atlanta area, i dont think atl approach like that very much. But oh yea... it was a decent plane for what it was made for though.

The MFD seems pretty simple. It's the base GPS that is slightly different when it comes to toggling between the screens etc...
haha

It's kind of hard to figure out in the air while trying to fly at the same time, and it's not like the alarus where you can just power up the GPS without powering up the master switch. So then your hobbs time is just ticking away.

I figure a simulator would be a much better alternative and safer too in case you crash it. LOL

I didn't find a simulator for the KLN-94 but I did download a KLN-94 Pilot's Guide:

and a KLN-94 Quick Reference:

I took these out to the aircraft, powered it up on external power(Master OFF) and fiddled away to my heart's content.

The only way for that aircraft to get external power is through the FBO. Do you think they'll charge for that if we regularly get fuel from them?

Thanks

You can slide the GPS unit out of the airplane and run it off of an external power supply on a nice comfy desk.

We have an old KLN-89B sitting in our sim room that's run that way. We use it for familiarization since, as you correctly pointed out, trying to learn it in the airplane is a pain.

Or, buy a proper docking station (ie http://www.lonestaraviation.com/docking.htm) to use with the unit.

Ours is just hooked up to a cheap power supply and sitting on a baking rack or something.
