Next month I got a trip to Morroco. Anyone have been there before? Anything I should know? What is a good hotel to stay in? Is getting security gaurd for airplane recommended??

Thanks

Johnny

I've been to Tanjier, never Marrakech. Over all it felt very safe. We didn't get a guard for the airplane and everyone was friendly.

I'm sort of a regular to Morocco.

It is safe there and it's actually a very nice place to visit. Our local handler was Stars Aviation... and they always take good care of us.

Flying-wise, Morocco is a third-world place. When you speak to Casablanca, you will be under radar control which is fine, but once you begin your descent and you're handed off to Marrakech, you'll be in non-radar environment with ATC constantly asking you to report DME. There will be no radar vectors, so expect to do full IAP. If the weather is nice and you're number 1, you could request a visual approach and they'll give it to you, but if there's any traffic, chances are you'll have to do a full procedure and since they generally keep you high, you'll most likely have to descend in a hold before beginning your approach.

Enjoy Marrakech. Lots of cool things to do there...

And if your heading to Rabat…same as freight Dog said. Handling was good, and stayed at Golden Tulip. Safety no problem.

Golden Tulip in Rabat has improved a bit. At my current gig, we usually stay at Sofitel in Rabat, but I've stayed at Golden Tulip when Sofitel was full.

Also, in Marrakech, we stayed at Sofitel. Very nice place!

The Sofitel is great and it's an easy walk to the souk. It's plenty safe, so get out and look around. The Souk is definitely something you have to see in the evening.

No security required for the plane. We've used Star Aviation and Royal Air Moroc. They're both good and will take care of everything. Have fun.

Was in Marrakech a few months ago. Security is not needed at the plane. We stayed at the Sofitel as well. Nice places to grab coffee around there too. Take some time and go into the old city. Do some haggeling and watch the snake charmers.
