"Furlough Protection" for the Deltoids

Fact is that we are a commodity and we will be bought and sold as need be. We all know it.
Everyone at the bottom of the list knew the risks when they came here. If it happens it happens. We all hope that it does not, but will deal with it if it does.
I am not worried about it yet....

Relax dude! It is okey for people to worry about stuff. Telling them that they all knew what was signed up for does not really make a point. We all signed up hoping for a good job and not instant layoffs. So we may be wrong, but I did not sign up up to lose my new job. If I believed I would be on the street or ever flying with people or airplanes I do not care to be part of I would have gone somewhere else.
And again we would have to deal with what ever cards we are dealt. But i am happy that Delta MEC and management cares about every last pilot on the property and are working aggressively to protect our interest. We expect nothing less. Northwest MEC and management is supposed to do the same thing.
Senior pilots need to learn to care about every pilot on property and earn the respect which we bostow on them.

I disagree with you and agree with ACL. If you wanted stability you should not have moved to a major right now. The military or a comfortable captain position at a regional was a much better choice. When you took the leap of faith you made an assessment of what was best for you and your family. I would assume you also looked at the possibility of furlough as this industry has been in the toilet for eight years except for a brief period last year. If you didn't then go ahead a bury your head in the sand I hope it works.

That being said anyone at anytime can be furloughed by this industry. I am not out of reach of the furlough by any means. After 911 DAL furloughed 1265 of us and that was the "good times" of aviation.

I hope it doesn't come to that but the no furlough clause at DAL is not worth much. Personally I would have liked to see something with teeth like six months pay for a furloughee instead of this statement that allows enactment of force manuer. Better yet fix reserve for the junior guys and no flying green slips and a 65 hr cap for everyone while one furloughee is out. These things have teeth.

Good luck more than anyone at DAL I don't want to see one guy on the street.

I am not afraid of much dude. Being laid of from my job is on the bottom of my list of things that bother me. But I believe we do have a right to expect more!
I do not like attitude of I have no say amoung pilots or older guy like you telling dudes to suck it up.
Have more expectations and strive to get to greater heights. passive people get treated like crap.
Be humble but demanding of your Airline and MEC.
Plan B is money lots of it. Once you are financially secured which most smart guys are. The lay off is not such a big deal. Also not being stuck on living in the USA makes a big diffrence. lots of jobs around the world that pay mucho bucks. Just open your minds boys and girls and smell the cash overseas. it is in Euros worth twice the dollar.
Before I round up here. I just wanted to let you know that your plan would never work. senior guys do not give a crap about most junior pilots and feel like you that they should suck it up. The more senior the more detached there become from the issues and the pain.

The husband of a friend of mine is a recent Delta hire. She said they got a letter from DALPA stating that they secured two years of furlough protection for all current Delta pilots as part of the deal. Any truth to this?

If so, it seems like there will be mass casualties in the NWA side only if and when Delta parks the DC-9s.
