Anyone work for the Ford or GM flight departments? PM me , I'd like to talk about the job. I am in the area and interested.

There are Ford and GM pilots on the board, but I bet they tell you that even though you're interested so are many other pilots who are qualified in the equipment that they fly. They are premier flight departments and anyone who gets on at either one is very fortunate - so many apply. Ken, the director at GM is a prince, and Ford has new leadership which the pilots seem to like. The compensation at both flight departments is excellent.

Good luck,

GV

I would still like to talk schedule, equipment and location if anyone has a few minutes. I saw that Ford was looking for FO's recently, anyone have any insight on how much time they had? I think the min's to apply were 3000TT 1000ME and 500 Turbine?

Im sure those mins are just that...mins...

one suggestion: 2500tt and no ATP?

Id fix that before hitting the bricks hard in the corp world..

;)

That's pretty harsh....It is however partly true. I started my first corp job with a little over 600 hours. Granted, it wasn't Ford or GM but there are jobs available, And before you flame, it wasn't PFT. I have 2500TT now and have been flying corp since 1999. It can happen.

Harsh? nope, not a bit...its just reality.

The guy is looking for a fortune 10 corp job with minimal experience, no inside connections and no ATP.

Im just giving a little insight to help along, as I look at resumes when my employer is hiring.

With no inside reference you simply HAVE to look 100% on paper to have a remote shot. Having 1000hrs above the ATP mins w/o the rating just might not cut it. Can he get it during intial...sure we all know that...but how's he going to look compared to others in the big stack of resumes. What percentage do you think will have the ATP? This guy has to sell himself.

I certainly dont intend to ask you about PFT nor do I care (?), but when you are shooting for some of the best Fortune 10 jobs out there (like this guy is) you just simply cant afford to look like a farkin' moron. There is just too much competition these days.

thats non-sugarcoated reality.

Best of luck!

My bad! I thought you were refering to the whole corp world as stated in your quote. Not just Fortune 10 companies.

You can probably broaden that out to the Fortune 200 or even Fortune 500...

If you refer to "Corporate" as any shmuck who has an airplane and hires a pilot, then yeah, it probably isn't that big a deal, but for any halfway decent Corporate gig you certainly should have an ATP, especially if you have 1,000 hours over the mins for the Certificate...

To put things into perspective... I work at a Fortune 100 company, our competitive mins are: 5,000 TT, 3,000 Multi, 1,000+ Turbine, 500+ Jet, and an ATP with typically at LEAST one Jet Type Rating... Time in Type and International Experience a definate plus...

The market is flooded with highly qualified pilots, why start an extra wrung down on the ladder???

Ford reduction in force

Last year in Nov 03 Ford Flt Dept eliminated two pilot positions, took the last two hired in the spring of 03 and gave them a one-day notice. Not a lay off, not a furlough, just eliminated no recall rights. One was a former USA Jet DC-9 Capt. who took a pay cut for the Corporate security. Auto big three companies are shrinking and will be moving more manufacturing off shore to remain competitive. I think those flight depts peaked some year’s back. I would think twice before I left a good job to go to the bottom of the list at an auto company.

Well then....that means I'm MORE than competitive! HOOK ME UP! ;)

I was planning on waiting for initial to get the ATP, I have all of the studying and training done. I guess trying to save a couple of bucks isn't the best idea in the corp world. Appreciate the posts G200.

You may want to try Pentastar, owned by E. Ford (I believe). I went through recurrent with one of their pilots and it seems like a solid company. Again, probably pretty competitve...

I talked with their chief pilot two weeks ago, they just hired a couple. Said they were always accepting resumes though. Nice guy, also a FAA DE in the area. Any other connections or suggestions would be appreciated!

Then you may want to consider using him for your ATP ride, which, by the way, is the most enjoyable checkride of them all. also the guy would be able to see you in action. Would look good to have a LOR from a DE.

421Driver,

If it was RW you talked to, here's some background. When he was hired by the company in the early 90's, he'd been out of flying (building houses) for 10 years. The CP (his pal, now DO) hired him in over our heads (many of us working for them as contractors), we're waiting almost 2 years to be brought on as company employees and he's immediately sent to Gulfstream school and made a fulltimer at Pentastar. The GoodOldBoy system at its worst.

I wouldn't pi$$ on his face if his mouth was on fire.

Good luck with it tho. The place is an OK stepping stone.
