Have a trip to Monterey, Mexico coming up in the next couple weeks, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they know about the place.

Any pertinent information about the airport, local procedures, customs, good places to stay, visit, eat, etc.

Will be there a few days and will have plenty of time to burn.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Gee, thanks, ultra. Now I'll have that thought stuck in my sick head all day! ;)

Now, what was the original question? :) TC

Well if she's got "one of those" websites, pass it along for me to see too. I certainly had no idea!

she is hot! have you ever flown into mehico before? I'm assuming not, call homeland security to find out what info you need to get back in! You'll need a customs decal, declaration forms for here and there. mehico wants your airworthiness, mexican insurance policy (written in espanole). then take a bunch of cash! It wouldn't hurt to have a couple of grand on you for tips/fuel(sometimes)/comadancia/operations/landingfees/morefees/ fees for the heck of it to pay for all those stamps you get! take a few cans of prist, they don't have premixed down there. sorry if this is crap that you already know.

monterrey I hope you not staying for long!

monterrey not much to say about it!

I think they handler we used was Icsi or something!

They are ok, and the airport is ok, they seems to leave you high on approach so carefully there!

Otherwise town is like tijuana , be carefull!

ok bars and stribclubs in area, that is all the good what I found!

Don't drink the water. Don't brush your teeth with it, don't wash your face in it. I go in to Mexico at least 1 or 2 times a week. Trust me on this one. Also, I have a pdf file of the General Declaration form for U.S. Customs. The mexican have always accepted a copy of the same "outward" Gen. Dec. form that we used at US customs. But, with taking pax out you shouldn't even have to stop at US Customs LEAVING. Of course, coming back in you will. Make 3 copies of all the general decs that you use. Keep one for yourself, one will go to customs, and the other you can have just in case somebody else wants one. The others are right. You need a mexican insurance policy, copies of the Airworthiness Cert, Registration. We just keep ours in a folder that stays in the airplane. You'll probably be greeted by the mexican army. Which is a 15 year-old with an automatic rifle and a clipboard. Then go close your flight plan, do immigration(may have to pay them, too), customs, and "sanitation" usually wants teh copy of the general decs. It's different in some places by a little bit. Don't forget to pay the commendancia, too. Cash is best for everything. They may take dollars, but you generally do better paying in pesos. The exchange rate as of Saturday was about 11.40 pesos for a dollar. When you use dollars in mexico it trades 10:1, so on large purchases you loose a little. Place as big as monterrey you should be able to get by on english alone, but a little spanish always helps.

Coming home: File a flight plan in the flight planning office. Then if you can find a way to call flight service or customs tell them that you're coming. Get a local flight service # before you leave(san angelo FSS, probably). Buy a prepaid phone card when you get there. 50 pesos will buy you maybe 10 minutes. That's all the public phones will take and you can call the US on them. Dial "001" and the area code and phone #. When you're about 100 miles from the border call flight service and give them a "customs update". Where you are, type, departure point, arrival point, ETA, # of souls, etc. If you're IFR, you may not have to do all of that, but covering your a$$ is the name of the game when dealing with customs.

Hope this helps. I know I went on for a bit, but I think it was all relevant. PM me if you would like me to email you the GEN. DEC. form.

a 15 year old with an automatic rifle and a clipboard! That is one of the funniest things I've ever heard and seen! Thanks for that! Oh and be careful while driving down here. Last night my boss hit a freeking COW out on the highway in his brand new Escalade. Blew the airbag and everything. That happens a lot down hear and the fine is pretty high. You'd be better off running into a person. (less of a fine).

Thanks a lot guys for all your helpful information. We're off in a couple days, and I appreciate everything!

One good thing is that our company is providing us with one of their employees as a "Guide" for our stay there, so hopefully he'll get us around most of the city and locals.

If you dont ever see me post on here again... well, you'll know how it went.
