Could someone tell me which FCC radio license I need to have to meet the hiring requirements at the regionals? I'm fairly certain that it is the Commercial Operator's License, but just want to make sure. Thanks in advance...

could someone also tell me, where/how to get a replacement? mine got mildly wet, mangled, and my home-made lamination wore off... well, government printing offices don't use that high quality ink stuff...
thanks!

Restricted Radiotelephone Operator's Permit. If it costs any more than $50 you're probably getting the wrong thing.

That's the one ya need!!!

Everyone who is applying to a airline that flys outside the US will need one

Mooser is right. You will certainly need one for Comair, and any other "regional" that flies to Mexico, Canada, etc. You can always call the FCC for help and for a replacement. They have an online tool for ordering one and it takes about 3 days to get it. I was impressed. They also have an excellent support team that you can call and help guide you through the process. The terminology is rather confusing, but it is the restricted radiotelephone permit that you want, not commercial operator's.

Due to paperwork reduction there
are now three or four forms that
you must fill out, including one that
is some kind of unique id number for
you personally...instead of one form
and it being free like the old days.

It is the Restricted Radiotelephone
Operator Permit, and the FCC's help
line people are very good...call them
for help.

Actually, these days you do not need a radio license to fly into Canada and I think Mexico is or already has removed the requirement as well. The only airline as far as I know that requires one prior to the interview is Mesa. Air Wisconsin certainly doesn't and we fly into Canada all the time. I'd check with the airline before wasting $50.

I had to have a restricted radiotelephone operator's cert. when applying to Mesaba a few years ago. No one's ever asked since indoc, but I still carry it. It only cost a few $, available @ fcc.gov. You can print a temp. one right away, I think.

POLICY CHANGE

If you lose it, you must buy a new one.. No replacements will be issued.

At least that's what the computer said when I got mine back in March.

Moscomcfi is also correct; the lady I talked to stayed on the phone through the whole proccess (I had to have it for my Express Jet Interview) which was very nice. I am glad I got it (good for life) and they give you to copys when you get it. A big one that is for framing and a little one to laminate and stick with your other pilot stuff. Fifty bucks is alot for us regional wanabees but it is worth it!!! You will never have to worry about getting it again and the rumor is they are going to increase the fee; to what I don't know.

Mooser

P.S. I have not framed mine YET...

Cathal,

I forgot I even had one, until my captain (and I) got line checked in April. M.K. asked to see everything, including our passports. So... we still need it, especially for those long overnights in YQR!
