I'm about to become a dart catcher..

..but, I started the thread

The name of the company is COLGAN air. That means, they can do what they want when they want. I've heard the rumors of the huge houses and cars. I've never ben invited to the houses. I have seen the Senator drive a mercury and Dot drive a mini van. I have no ax to grind with the Colgan's. I haven't gotten every little thing I want from them, nor should I. Its work! I worked in banking and finance for 15 years before becoming a pilot. Frankly, I've seen alot worse.

Those who know me, and flown with me have heard me vent about work. Sometimes its tough and frustrating. However, the Colgan's are unique people who have a family business and their name is on the door. Not mine.

I have my reasons for leaving. They do not need to be made public and they do not involve any sort of malfeasance on my part or anyone else's.

I guess in summary, while I have vented as badly as anyone else, I have had only one bad day at Colgan and that was August 26. Every other day, I got paid a wage I accepted to go to the airport. That was fair enough for me. I'm moving on because I can. I wish everyone else well.

Congrats man...see ya in STL man...by the way when does your class start?

I'm sure I'll bring the wrath of Colgan haters on this board, but I have to say that I've generally been treated pretty well here.

I'm lucky enough to have a very easy commute to a great base, and that makes a huge difference in quality of life. Perhaps more important, though, is the fact that I've always been treated well by the crew schedulers and I've never had an issue with pay, hotels reservations, or any other administrative issue.

Sadly, I can't even begin to say that I was treated as well in my eight years as a naval officer. It's all perspective.

I'll be the first to admit that as an F/O, I don't face the same pressures as the captains do, but I'm not oblivious to what happens around me. We'll see if my perspective changes after I've had the opportunity to upgrade.

So - to all you guys that have left and are about to leave, I wish you well - especially if you're senior to me! If you're junior to me, stick around and get the PIC time!

Lucky: have fun flying an IMN for a change.

BSkin: Good luck at Citrus... Ever hear from Ug Lee?

BP: Well, you're gonna have plenty of time to fly the J41 when you're livin' in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!

cpierse,

ugh is at Mesa, atleast he was going there the last time we IM'd. Jet-for-job thing.

I was in SYR and heard you left the company, where are you based, closer to NGU? Thanks for the luck at Citrus. You must be getting close to upgrade. Stick with it and get the PIC. Watch your six. You may have had no problems yet, but you will, esp. as Capt. Don't let them lead you to trouble, all I've got to say on that.

SYR guys said I left, huh? Naw - I'm still here... based in SHD, so that makes it easy to get down to NGU to do the Reserves, although VAW-78 is going to decom in less than a year... maybe I'll see you in ATL if I go to 77.

cpierse,
Nothing really personal here, but please spare me the whining about how tough you had it as a Naval officer. Especially, if you are trying to compare that to your new career as an airline pilot. Speaking from someone that was an enlisted flight crewmember, and knows better it doesn't wash.
Obviously, you enjoyed it enough to stick around long enough to realize that you weren't going to augment to the regular Navy...What a tool

Kaman,

Re Cpierce, the USNA means no augmentation needed.

Caution thread hijack

cpierse,

Man you always did crack me up, but you've got it all wrong.

Me llamo Matt Foley, soy tres divoranos, y yo vivo en un VAN CIRCA DEL RIO!!!!

Como los russos dice, VOSTROVIA!!!

You take care of yourself there and hope you upgrade soon, athough these days 1000 hrs PIC turbine and $2.50 will get you some Starbucks. PM me your email.

Capn Lucky good luck in your endevours.

I take a check ride (sort of), get on a plane for 4 hours and this thread explodes.

Lucky... No one bitches about Colgan more than I do.

You coming to visit soon?

Negative Cap'n Lucky,
Augementation is no longer automatic for USNA grads. Hasn't been for sometime. As far as the thread theft...negative. As we all know you never know who is listening and reading here.
My comment was not an meant as personally as it may have seemed. Unless you have been there and experienced the Navy as I did for 20 years you have no idea just how "rough" it is in "officer country". I hold no bitterness toward the Navy or officers in general. My Dad was one for 26 years in the Air Force and I grew up as an officer's son.
To compare working for a regional vs. being a Naval officer is apples and oranges, but if you are going to draw a comparison as he did. It's a huge load of BS. Many of you have served in the military and know that it's no bed of roses, but hardly a "poor" way of being treated...Especially, as an officer. I flew with some that I'd have followed anywhere, I also flew with some that I wouldn't cross the street to piss on them if they were on fire. Typically, these were the ones that complained the most on plane guard at how "awful" things are and that they can't wait to get out...YAWN...All non-hackers like that we were more than happy to see get out.

regards,

ex-Navy Rotorhead

P.S. And guess who's job it was to fish out types like your buddy here after they punched out? Been there and done that...The pricks didn't even pony up the Chivas.

Yo loverboy! What is a "sort of" checkride? I thought WE only had those with the PPVs. I'm off Monday & Tuesday. If you're not in sim, maybe I can fly out for lunch? Otherwise, the Mrs. and I are plainning on a Vegas trip around 4/25-4/28. Talk to me goose.

DaveyDave,

Are we allowed to talk like that on here? Moderators, I don't know this man.

All kidding aside, things are well, I'm livin the dream.
You know its all fur coats and pinky rings at Trans States. Big pimpin, dog.

Things won't be the same around there once you leave. I do miss those union meetings in PIT. Hopefully, I'll catch you in Cincy sometime.

Hey Skin good luck

Hey Skin,

Good luck at Citrus. Glad to see its come around for you!! I never did drop my goodbyes to all the Colganites myself. I agree they treated me pretty good, considering I never had to move or commute other than by car.

I finished my G/S now just waiting for some sim time..oh and the other folks to call. Drop me a line and tell me how things are.

Hey Mung..you will shut (or Punch) the lights out...I know you will. LOL
